I recently bought a second hand 21" Cornerstone Color 50/101sf which pulls off some amazing refresh rates and resolutions. The thing is when you switch it on it makes a loud "fart" like noise. I am wondering if there is any way to fix this, and is it likely to cause any problems in the future, or should I just ignore it?
Secondly, every resolution works quite fine on this thing except 800x600 which has black lines down the sides of it in two overlapping waves of small circular concentrical rings. It is only noticable when the screen is in a dark part of a game (Far Cry), but outside when it is bright in the game, you can hardly see the lines at. Unfortunately the game starts chocking when I bump it up to 1024x768 (which shouldn't really happen with a 9800 Pro), but anyway, any ideas on how to fix this also? (Ive tried deguassing it, which looks like it works for a seconds then it clicks back and is the same).

the loud fart noise you are hearing is your degauss working at full power (big computer monitors have some really impressive degauss circuits, my old 20" sony used to make pictures shake on other monitors over 15 feet away or in the neighbours house) once the monitor is actually up and running the manual degauss operates at a reduced power.
cant think whats causing the display error you are seeing.
