the message was BB" or something like that!
This doesn't help. So many songs have been written about me.

Hmmmm, no they have not.  I can currently only think of Metallica that tried to use a strainer to force together distortion and violins.  Slayer has not jumped that shark yet.

i thought it was Barry Adamson

Barry who?

Quote
as it has that kind of narrative style like 'set the controls for the heart of the pelvis.

"heart of the pelvis"?

Quote
the video clip having that sort of spy chase look.

"spy chase"?

Quote
it also reminded me of Jimmy Nail for some reason.

Jimmy who?

Quote
To summarise, the song has a sort of Barry Adamson narrative style.

Barry who?

Quote
for the chorus, there are violins

Ahhhh, finally something I've heard of.... let's see, a song with violins.....

Was it "Dust in the wind" by Kansas?

edit: i should mention that the song probably dates from about the mid-nineties onwards...

I'm thinking it's a little past Kansas  ;)

I actually have a legitimate guess: the Beastie Boys - that 1970s cop looking video, I can't recall the name.

im tellin y'all its sabotage....

now think of that song. imagine it. savour its flavour....

ITS NOTHING LIKE SABOTAGE!!!

(or slayer)

another clue i guess is that the clip looked 'spy chasey' in the same way as ultravox- vienna. not that there were any spy chases as such, but it had that sort of film noir thing going with the dude in the trench-coat etc.

but im beginning to think there isnt as broad a range of musical tastes here as i first hoped  :(

I don't recognise the song from your description ( I do have a fairly broad range of musical taste), but I think these links may help.

This thread reminds me of an old joke.

Guy walks into a bar with a steering wheel down the front of his pants.
The bartender points to it and says, "Do you know you have a steering wheel in your pants?"
Guy says, "I know, it's driving me nuts."

Bittersweet Symphony  by  The Verve

If that's it then danny_g get's the "Worst Description Ever" award because EVERYbody knows that freakin' song.

Post by: missioncontrol on November 05, 2005, 04:28:06 pm
that song deserves the award for the worst song ever
Title: Re: help! elusive song title is driving me nuts!

fat johnny: no, it is not bittersweet symphony.

quarterback: if that was the case i would have to agree with you!

mission control: but it does get the award for funniest case of being sued ever. When The rolling stones sued the Verve, they got the rights to it as well as backroyalties and then started selling the poxy thing to every advertising agency around thus ensuring EVERYONE grew to hate The Verve!! now thats pretty wiley (",)

ok, i know this thread is pretty old, and for some reason half the stuff i posted has dissappeared (?)but ive had a win! i can now sleep at night (",)

i was idly looking in a music store oday when i happened to look at a serge gainsbourgh CD. the very first song was INITIALS B.B! that had to be it. once i got home i googled serge and found a sound byte of it. definitely the sound. so my clip must have been a cover since the video looked quite modern (from what my half asleep memory of the time told me). googling for covers i found the clip! the singer is mick harvey who used to be in a band with nick cave. and here is the clip. i think my descriptions in retrospect werent that bad...

http://vids.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=vids.individual&videoid=1845526764

and here is the original by serge gainsbourgh:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5rBiTL0ej2o

where serge went wrong is lack of chicks (",)

oh, and b.b stands for bridgette bardot one of many stars he used to bone hang out with...

Nice song. The vido clip is a bit low budget though. A bit like those Australian sci-fi movies  ;D

The vocals reminded me of that Ben Folds/Captain Kirk abomination.

I can see how the violin riff hooked you though. An hour later, it was stuck in my head so hard I had to listen again and post this.
