Title: Getting my Front end to run as a shell
Post by: grayxx on October 26, 2005, 02:23:09 pm
hi guys ive been thinking of setting my mala front end as a shell in xp, so i can get rid of the task bar etc, ive been looking at how to do it, but once ive done it as a shell, how do i add remove roms etc if it boots straight into my mala frontend, like is it possible to go to the windows xp desktop from the shell??

You could network to it and make changes remotely?

I use MaLa on start-up and toyed with the idea of running it as the shell.  I decided not to do it  ;D

Yes it is. Exit the front end, CONTROL ALT DELETE to bring up task manager. goto FILE/RUN then type EXPLORER or EXPLORER.EXE and there you go, start menu returns!

If you do this remotely, CONTROL ALT DELETE does not work, use CONTROL ALT and HOME (or was it END?) instead

Not quite.  ctrl+alt+delete is part of explorer, so if explorer isn't running...
I don't know about mala, but if you can get it to run explorer you will be set.

Ctrl-alt-delete works fine without explorer running on my cab.

That would make sense. Forgot to add that I was running XP when I posted.

Yeah I have MaLa set to 'hide the taskbar too'. And as ypu know you can shutdown windows within MaLa so there is no need for a taskbar when gaming.

Maybee grayxx  just wants to hide Windows as much as possible so you don't get a flash of the taskbar on Shutdown or Startup?

Hi,

If i well understand you want simply access Windows Explorer when you want despite the fact you put your FE as Shell?

If you were on Atomic , you will just have to press F11 key to run explorer.

Another solution , which should work on all Front End.
Press Control+ALT+DEL
Select "Task Manager"
Go to file Menu
Go to new task
Type : explorer.exe

And that 'all.  You could be able to copy your roms now.
