Title: Is this a good soldering iron for pinball/arcade use? Only 40 watts...
Post by: 2PacMan on October 26, 2005, 11:57:47 am
It's only 40 watts and fairly inexpensive, but looks much easier to use than a bulky gun....is this good enough for soldering wires arcade related things??

Should be fine.  I prefer these 'pen' style  over the 'gun' anyway.  I think the 'gun' is overkill for basic wiring.

Oh, a couple other things:

I personally wouldn't spend $18 on one.  Harbor Freight has them for less and so does RadioShack and most Dollar Stores/Big Lots

Here's one at RS (http://www.radioshack.com/product/index.jsp?productId=2062738&cp=&pg=4&kw=soldering+iron&parentPage=search) for ~$8 (and they have others as well)

You'll probably want a smaller tip than what appears to be in the Sears photo.    I guess that's a YMMV statement, but I've found it to be true for me.
