Title: JAMMA Cabinet - ATARI (Steem) Emulator?
Post by: ParityBit on October 26, 2005, 06:02:43 am
Hello all,

I have converted my JAMMA Cabinet, incorporating a custom PC shelf. Windows XP is installed, along with MAMEWah.

I am very interested in using an ATARI (ST) Emulator (obviously will be coming second best to MAME ;D ), also to work under MAMEWah. I'm sure it has been done before? also any pointers?

Anyone out there also experimented with the "Steem" Atari engine emulator, for Windows?

Hi Arcadefever,

Many thanks for your prompt response *thumbs up*.

Thats great, will definately look into this further, as an option.
Although, I have a J-Pac in my hardware setup. I believe the Two (I-Pac / J-Pac) incorporate similar features, so it should work too.

How did you get around the TOS. As I've read the emulator will boot up to the TOS (Atari ST Desktop) first, THEN you can play from there.....

Any way of bypassing this in MAMEWah, so it will run the games instantly?

Thanks again,

 :)

I actualy still got a (heavily modded) St here, although it hasn't run in years  :-\

Yes I will be running Steem (or another ST emulator) as well when I finish my cab (soon I think)...

Great to hear controls are working OK with a J=pac...Also great to be able to run ST games in their native resolution on an Arcade Monitor with my ArcadeVGA :)

And I know which game I will be playing first: NEBULUS !!!!!!

Also, will the JAMMA cabinet control panel (your default joystick and 3 buttons) interface fine with the 'Steem' emulator/games?

The Steem Atari emulator can be found here:

All feedback welcomed,  :)

alright, I might be missing something here, but I grew up using an Atari ST.  Don't you need a keyboard and mouse to use it.  Or is it possible to navigate the OS with the arrow keys?  I know for a fact that some of the games I used to play on it wont work well on an arcade, Monkey Island (greatest game EVER), Little Computer People (precursor to the Sims), The Kings Quest Games and just about any other one that required typing.  Second thought Monkey Island could still work, but the other two couldn't.  so my guess is people are playing some of my other favorites on my ST, Gauntlet and Marble Madness.  but you might as well use an arcade emulator then....

Remember there's also a ton of "arcade-like" games for the ST that were no arcade conversions.
My all time favorite is definitly Nebulus, if you haven't played it, go find it somewhere and PLAY ! It is fantastic.
There's also some shooters coming to mind but cant remember names :S
And there's a zillion more I bet :)

Steem is a VERY good emulator !
