Title: Uhm, yeah, better call home
Post by: ChadTower on October 19, 2005, 12:12:28 pm

Wasn't aware of this (http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/10/19/massachusetts.dam.ap/index.html).  My house is not far from there.

Yikes.

It's a 173 year old wooden dam.  I don't think I'd want to live donwstream of it.

 ;D

I actually live in a neighboring town, so my house nor my family are in danger.

Quote
City officials toured the dam site Wednesday morning with Sens. Edward M. Kennedy and John F. Kerry, U.S. Rep. Barney Frank and Gov. Mitt Romney.

Okay, I can see Romney, since he is the Governor, I guess... but why the Senators and one Rep?  This isn't a federal issue, so the Senators have no reason to be there, and the Rep has no reason at all.

This is dumb.  I can see it now.  Kerry tells everyone he has a plan to fix the dam but won't get into the details.  Frank stands there and blusters at it about how it is unfair to the working poor and then takes a nap.  Romney pretends it is interviewing him and tells it with a wink he will not run for president in '08, and then Kennedy gets hammered and drives off of it.

Then, the state steps in, starts a reconstruction project that runs 150x over budget and is still not completed in 2010.

I am your dam guide, Arnie, please don't wander off the dam tour and please take all the dam pictures you want. Now are there any dam questions?

Heh.  I figured if I spelled it with the 'i' I'd get away with it.  Knew the 'y' would bounce.

Take that autocensor...  Sometimes a d i ke is just holding back water.

"One of the owners, Steve Poelaert, said work to restore the dam was to have begun last Friday, but was delayed by the heavy rain."
