Title: Best mame to use?
Post by: Demon-Seed on January 18, 2003, 10:37:39 am
Hi,
My cabinet is down right now, but I was playing with a version of mame called Smooth Mame. It runs games smoother apparantly.. but I wondered if anyone else has used it? On the cabinet now I have Command Line Mame Windows Version. Is there a better version to use? There are so many and I am not sure.. basically I want complete full screen (no blk border), smooth/clean graphics and fast/optimized speed. Any ideas? or is what I am using ok? the new pc parts I am getting will help!
thx
Jim

My vote? Advance MAME (http://advancemame.sourceforge.net/) if you can survive the configuration process that is =)

Also, what is your target display TV, SVGA PC monitor, Arc Monitor, ????
That would factor in to your decision... (although arguably advancemame works well for all 3, I imagine)

I don't think there is a MAME that "fork" that is necessarily drop dead faster, they each just add the odd feature or two (or misfit roms sets, etc)

*Shrug* YMMV - do not taunt happy fun ball

Wht do you mean black border?  Have you turned hardware stretching on in the mame ini file?  If so then it's your video card that can't handle hardware stretching.

Is there a listing of all the Mame varients available somewhere and what each does?
