I have been using Mame32 forever (OK, two years) and now I want to have a better frontend with multiple emulator capabilities.
I installed MameWAH last weekend and I changed the ini files to match the rom locations, but MameWAH doesn't find any games.
Is it because I am using Mame32? If so, what is a command line version?
Thanks in advance

MAMEWah can be a little confusing to set up, but it's not really very hard at all. Almost all problems come down to naming conventions... I've found.
In order to use MAMEWah, I believe that you need to use the Windows command line version of MAME. Look here (http://www.mame.net/downmain.html)... it's the very first file available for download.
A "command line" version simply means that there is no built-in "front end" drag and drop windows interface. The command line program is executed and passed attributes through the command line (or Command Prompt in Windows).
MAMEWah will, in effect, act as your front end to MAME (and any other emulator you wish to run).

Just wanted to add that MAME32 should work (I think some folk here use it), but I would highly recommend you use the Windows commandline version as you'll certainly save yourself some headaches along the way...

Just noticed this...go to www.mame.net and get the Windows commandline version from the 'main downloads' page.

I use Mame 32 Plus, it comes with a command line version (mamep.exe) that gives all the benefits of Mame 32 Plus without the GUI.

are you serious? ive been using mame32 since i got mamewah. i had it working on mamewah .90 or something like that, but ive recently upgraded to .161 of mamewah and im trying to use mame32. has it been tested that it doesnt work with mamewah? ive always hated the commandline crap cuz you can just drag and drop and click your way to configuration instead of having to manually type everything in.
but anyway, i was having problems getting my list of games to come up as well. why did you go to the .ini config method instead of the old menu config method minwah? its confusing dude. maybe just for me i guess. anyway, im having problems getting my games to show up and ive set the rom directory in the .ini file correctly. do i have to have a dat file and a catver file for the games to show up?

Well MAME32 is commandline MAME with useless (for our needs) stuff added in...so there is no need to use it really. As I say it might work but I never test it and therefore can't recommend using it.

Well once setup for the first time you don't need to make alterations, so I figured it made sense. Also, there are so many features now having them in the menu would be totally confusing IMO.

No, all that is required is the rom_path, rom_extension and list_generation method. What list_gen_method are you using?

Well, I have some sort of good news. I got Mamewah to work, but I had to use the older version with the mamewah-setup.
It is pretty cool, but the only problem I am having now is all my games want to work in vertical mode, how do I switch them to work in horizontal mode?

OK, I got the new version of MameWAH to work on my other computer, but now the problem I am having is getting it to work with my mame layout.
In the layouts folder, I have a folder called mame and in there I downloaded the 01mame.lay and images from cpviewer.com. In the mamewah config file I changed the layout location to mame.
What am I doing wrong?

Cool, I figured it out, apparently I needed to rename the files to mame instead of 01mame.
Everything is working :)
Now, I just need to figure out how to do my own layout (I wish I was an artist).
Also, is there a way to make this work as a jukebox too? Otherwise, I have been using SK Jukebox which is pretty cool :)

Mame 32 works just fine. infact I prefer it to the commandline version simply because I can go into it wirelessly from my master pc and change mame configs on the go. I can also change multiple games at once to have the same config, eg I need to adjust some sound settings for all the mortal kombat games, I simply went into mame32 wirelessly, highlighted all MK roms and changed properties in one.

How do I get the new version of MameWAH to switch layouts / emulators while in MameWAH?
Meaning, if I am looking through the MAME list, how do I switch to SNES, etc?
I got it to work with the old version of MameWAH and mamewah setup.

Hit 2 > Select Platform, or use a shortcut as defined in the \config\mamewah.cfg ctrlr file.
