I picked up a DC Sports Edition...I never heard of it before...
Are they good units?

I have the sports edition DC.  Worked since day 1 when I bought it from Best Buy.

One of my collectors DC's is a "Sports" (black) and it plays backups fine.

That blue "Performance" controller is a branded Astropad. Don't bother hacking it unless you are going to build a control panel dedicated to it.
