found one in the shopping centre just down the road from work. its a jap/aussie cocktail cab with horizontal joystick. ive been playing galaga. it has four or so games on it including dig dug and 1942. which i havent tried yet as dig dug should be 4 way and 1942 8 way. thus one of them is gonna be annoying (probably dig dug). seems to be called 'play zone v192'. anyone heard of this? is it a bootleg from back in the day or some kind of pc based modern bootleg? i did notice that it had some kind of error message on it one time i went to play it so i just turned it off at the wall to see what would happen. the start up seemed to be non-pc looking with tests and stuff...
whatever it is, its nice to be playing on again (",) . and the horizontal joy is surprisingly comfortable. as long as theres only one button to hit (i use my thumb on this one) its more comfortable than my vertical stick cocktail. more than one button would be pushing it though as the way im hitting the fire button on this machine is distinctly slower than on mine.

Does it look like this?

That's yer average 3/4/9 in 1 board. I've seen them in a few places.

arrrrghhhh! there be pirates!!! yep. looks a lot like those pics. not the same selection of games but the same format and style of writing, and the use of the word play zone. i guess the give away now i think about it is that there are little placards under the glass of advertisements from back in the day aimed at the arcade operator....

well, today while i was having lunch the vendor came by and took this machine away! but, thankfully he took out the motherboard and put it in a new hankin style cab. so i can still play galaga! and 1942 because THIS machine has TWO buttons. corrr...
it occurred to me afterwards that he might want to get rid of the old cab cheap. i might try and contact him soon before he chucks it. was reasonable condition, scratched glass, and it had a nintendo plate on it (taito style with the horizontal sticky out joy). with those lovely cast ali legs (",)
except for the legs, looks a bit like this:

what would be a reasonable amount for this do you think? oh, i think it had a jamma harness judging by the mobo he took out. if it was cheap or free i would stash it away until i have somewhere to play it and probably mame it with a few select vertical games...
