Title: Tuturial: Mounting Creative SBS 330 Speakers
Post by: Ldsfunaz on October 15, 2005, 05:22:57 am
I've got a lot of help from these boards so I thought it was time to do a little something for everybody, I am building My first cab and wanted really cheap ass speakers. I settled with the Creative SBS 330 speakers because 1) they are so cheap, only 20 bucks at your local wal-mart, 2) external wired remote for easy volume changing.

The first thing you have to take off the speaker grill.

Now that you have your 2 inch hole, now is a good time to route the wood so your speaker grill is set flush.  To do this you need to set your router and straight bit to 1/2", put your router in the 2 inch hole and fire it up, I would recommend clamping down so pieces of wood as guides for your router.  Make sure you are routing the side of your piece that will be facing outward, If you do this backwards, you have some problems, better start cutting a new piece of wood  :'(.

first picture is of the routed space( I would recommend you trying this on a test piece like i did, don't mind the very quick uneven route job), second is the grill sitting flush in that hole.

OK, everything is going smoothly so far.  Now its time to cut those little spacers.  Because of the way you are mounting the speaker from the back, there is a little space between actually speaker which would make the actual speaker not secured to anything, and it would rattle around and ruin the sound( and I rhymed which is so profound, that tripped on a mound, and hit the ground, which made me come unwound... OK I'm done, sorry. ::))  OK where was I, right, you need to secure the speaker some how, to do this you need to cut the little nylon spacers.  Be careful!! I held the spacers with a pair of pliers and cut them with a utility knife.  These little buggers need to be 1/4 inch.  The length is not the most important thing, but they need to all be the same length for proper mounting.
you need 4 of these per speaker.

First picture if showing a cut spacer, and the second is of the spacer on the speaker.

Now you are ready to mount these babies.  This is as simple as putting the screws through the back piece of the speaker, putting the spacers on the screws, passing the screws through the wood, placing the grill so the screws line up with holes, and use the screwdriver to tighten the grill to the wood.  If you did this right the speaker and the grill should both be solid and tight.

Here is a side view and top view of the finished product.  I think it came out quite nicely.  ;D 8)
