Sure, it won't get cold enough in NY until about December, but if anyone's around Long Island....
...the ice goes down around Christmas.
-
.....
-
haha thats awesome, what do you do just throw a bunch of buckets of water out there when it gets cold?
-
What is that crazy sport they are playing? I think I remember it being on national tv...maybe I'm mistaking it with something else that has come back recently....hmmmm...weird.

It's all about the mist...
A fine layer of mist from the hose freezes faster than buckets of water.
-
That's right before your pipes burst and your whole house and yard are covered in similar ice.
-
That is cool. Literally.
-
The lighting effect is mighty cool.
-
My wife would love it if I did that at my house, but sadly it only gets cold enough for it work a few non-consecutive days of the year.

Last year it snowed for only a day here in Corpus
-
The only ice we get in Australia is in our Scotch 'n Coke. :'(
-
I didn't know NY was in Canada!
;D
-
Gets cold like that for months in New England too.
-
Thanks...
Yeah, it takes a pretty good cold snap to get a good sheet down.
-
I would have done this too, but my yard is not level enough.

thats awesome, you win the cool dad award 8)

Well done! I grew up In Northern NY. First snowfall and Halloween
usually were neck and neck. We had a conveniently located pond we could clear off and skate on. Kind of Norman Rockwellish in retrospect but it was kinda neat.

Was that the Zamboni parked next to that building?

i have to say that's the first joke of yours i didn't think was funny. it was more like forced, polite humor from the truck observation although i was laughing at the joke attempt probably more than i would have laughed at a funny joke.
the rink is cool. i'm more of a do stuff that takes no more than a minute kind of person, so i can appreciate the dedication.

I was watching TV last night with the little woman and in the show it was Christmas eve and it was snowing. We both commented of how foreign the idea seems. Christmas day here is usually hot, bloody hot.
A white Christmas must be heaps of fun for the kids.
-
A white christmas actually is a small cause of stress for a lot of people. If there is not snow, they get upset about it... and about a week before christmas start to get all stressed out about there being no snow.
Weird, but I see it in a lot of people here.
-
Zamboni? Almost. Of course, the rule is--you skate, you sweep...
-
We didn't even do that in Canada, we used to just pour more water over it. The dust combines with the water and makes a new sheet.
-
Bones, I live in a part of the US that doesn't get a whole lot of snow, so a white xmas is pretty foriegn to me too. I can count the number of times it's happened on one hand. Fine by me, I hate the stuff. I have too much driving to do over the holidays to worry about the roads being slick anyway.

White Christmas: 20 below zero, radiators freezing up, icy roads, heaters breaking down, lost fingers from frostbite.
Aussie Christmas: 40 above zero, day on the beach, nice breeze blowing through the house as we get yet another ugly sweater. And air-conditioners breaking down.
Take your pick.
