Title: Avoid the Performing Arts
Post by: Dartful Dodger on October 13, 2005, 03:12:36 pm
A friend of mine had a silent film playing in a show (http://www.acmusic.org/) down town. They had live music playing to the films so I thought it could be fun.

DD, I could have saved you some time and told you that you are WAY too conservative for performance art. ;)

The thing has two supercharged V8s in it, what difference does it make if you can't see where you're going?

Besides, wrong kind of motors.

Armatures = electric motors.

DD,

Forget about the arts, maybe you should just avoid trouble your grey matter with these posts.

Should you be trusted, now, as a fine arts critic simply because you bothered to slog your way out to a coffee house to watch some locals put on a little show. How open-minded of you that you'd then you use that experience as an example of the 'Performing Arts' in general?

Give me a break. Have you ever taken a trip to your local symphony? Local art museum? Local theatre? Local design studio? Local dance studio?

I'd imagine, when it comes to creative talents, you, sir, are a rank "armature"...maybe you need to broaden your horizons and see some real works. Or maybe, better yet...you need to stay home and watch the TEE VEE.

Just note that there's a big difference between the calibur of work that comes out of a COLLEGE STUDENT (like you said your GF was) and what comes out of seasoned experienced professionals.

True dat.

I was a Fine Arts double major, graduated with a BFA (Bachelors of Fine Arts - Graphic Design/Electronic Art)...and I can honestly say I would never use my experiences in college as a barometer for what the Fine & Performing Arts is all about. Certainly gave me a lot of respect for various forms of creativity, but most work in that environment is NOT indicative of the professional world, nor would I be so foolish as to act as judge, jury and executioner regarding "Art."

A world without art...what's the point exactly? No music, no dancing, no painting, no sculpture, no architecture, no automotive design, no television shows (writers, performers), no movies. Me'thinks DD takes a LOT of this stuff for granted.
