I just scored a mint condition Heavy Barrel cab. A friend told me that someone had put it on the side of the road. I figured I would pick the thing up up for spare parts and when I plugged the thing in it fired right up. It is in great shape. I am going to paint the coin doors, replace the side art (it is faded) and add wheels to the bottom. I want to keep it original, but I would like to able to play other rotary games like Ikari Warriors and Victory road. Is there any way to do this?

You could do it with a multi-JAMMA board. Run the real Heavy Barrel PCB on one slot, and a PC through a JPAC for the other... although there might be some complications with the rotary sticks... not sure about that though since I have no experience with them.

...but of course you couldn't pick it up in your lamborgini, so you had to drive home to get the hummer, which your supermodel wife was driving, so while you waited for her you had a snack on the side your house since everything is made of chocolte and you don't mind waiting because you haven't used all of your six months of vacation this year....

You are very close, but I got rid of the supermodel and picked up the Playboy Pet of the Year, and it wasn't my Hummer, it was my Gold plated flying car.

Someone needs to learn what "mint condition" means. Faded sideart is not "mint condition". But criticism asides... ;D
Nice find! I would buy the other JAMMA boards and use a multi-jamma adaptor. I think using a PC might really complicate things because of the way the rotaries work and that the PC uses a different power supply, etc, etc...
Actually, come to think of it, even sticking to jamma boards might be a problem. The JAMMA standard and harness does not support rotary joysticks. Chances are that those are hooked up to a seperate harness. Now, who's to say that that extra harness is even compatible with those other boards?
So not only do you need a way to switch between game boards, but you'd also need a way to switch the rotary harness to the different game boards. You might be able to do this with one of those old Printer (parallel port) switchboxes and hacked parallel cables. Sounds like alot of work though!

I would just go the jamma round with a jpac if possible and manually switch them. But these will not be jamma only since the 12 way has 12 extra inputs per controller. So you will probably need to do some extra cables to plug back and forth.
But I bet you could get it working with only swapping a few cables and the jamma edge.

I absolutely love my MultiJamma kit, but think I agree with Lilwolf on this as the MJ isn't going to handle the rotaries nicely (there are a few extra inputs beyond JAMMA available on the MJ boards, but not enough to handle a rotary). All of the non-JAMMA controls on my MJ cab (trackball, Happs guns, analog stick) connect directly to the game boards and do not run through the MJ boards at all.
At least follow Lilwolf's advice at first, then you can decide if you want to do something like a parallel port switch.

Or you could just mame it and download the heavy barrel rom, since you could leagally do that. ;)
Actually, if the licence agreement on PCBs are anything like commercial software EULAs, you can't leagally aquire the rights to the game by buying second hand. not sure.
...regardless, would it be any different except psychologically if you played the mame rom as opposed to the actual board?
I guess you either restore it and restore it original or mame it. Not in between. It doesn't seem like there's a point. Just leave it dormant in the cab so you can restore it if you build your own cab for mame.

I just really want to run Rotary games like Ikari Warriors, Victory Road, etc. I have another mame cab for playing trackball, fighthing games and old school pac-man types. I guess I will probably Mame it just for the rotary games and keep the guts intact so I can always restore if I wanted.

Not sure I understand the PCB ???. I have a Jamma board and a PCB in my Heavy Barrel, right?. The Jamma Board stays in and you change out the PCB if you want to change the game. Is that right?

If I go the Mame route, all I should need would be a J-Pac and a ArcadeVGA card correct?

a jamma board is a pcb, so you heavy barrel is already jamma wired just buy any JAMMA pcb like ikari wariors or victory road and plug them to the harness .

it is made by snk i`ve one pcb and run fine in my jamma cab
guerilla wars will also run prfectly in that cab...

Cool ... thought Ikari wasn't JAMMA, but all the better. Makes me wish I had bought that Time Soldiers cabinet.
