Title: Anyone have any experience with Humidifiers?

I have oil/forced air heat and it gets crazy dry in the house during the winter.

I have this situation too, but I haven't done anything about it.

In my old house, I had the kind where a "sponge" rotated around in a pan of water.  absolutely horrible.  gross to clean.  even "Grosser" to think of air I am breathing  blowing around in there.

My buddy bought some kind that sprayed a super fine mist while the furnace was ruinning.  Is this the kind you mention you can't get?

If you are a rich guy, you can get a steam humidifier.  They use the same sort of system that big commercial air conditioners/heaters use.  They are significantly more expensive than your average house humidifier though.

A bucket of water with a washcloth half in and half out with a small fan blowing on it actually works.  Those furnance ones are often too cumbersome, costly, and mechanically unreliable.  We just have a small Mary-Catherine-Gallagher style one and it does ok.     [dry skin smiley]
