Surely someone else has tried to use this combination: DOS mame, ATI PC2TV card connected to a TV with a composite or s-video cable.
The TV out works fine in windows mame but the performance is noticably worse. I'd rather run DOS mame if possible but the system hangs completely. If I boot up without the TV out connected, DOS mame works just fine.
Suggestions? If money were no object I'd buy a 27" Happ VGA so I'd have every available option. But it looks like they are about $500, does anyone know where to get one for less?
Has anyone used the Happ 27" VGA with DOS mame? Does it work 100%?
Thanks,
Wade

Me thinks the pc2tv adapter requires a Windows driver

hey wade,
I'm probably still of little help but I noticed this (http://www.mameworld.net/pc2jamma/mamemon.html) on the pc2jamma page... it might be outdated but if the switch is still in teh dos mame docs... i'd try -monitor ntsc
My guess is that MAME is requesting a rate that your video card cannot do when it's trying to do TV out (but that's a wild guess - and doesn't make sense - but I've seen stranger things happen)

I'll experiment with the mame options (including -ntsc) and see what happens.
BTW, I found this list of screen resolutions that supposedly work on the TV output of my card. Maybe if I specify one of these exact resolutions it will work:
TV Resolution
320x200 320x240 320x350 320x400
360x200 360x240 360x400 400x300
512x384 640x350 640x400 640x480
720x350 720x400 800x600

http://www.arcadeathome.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=17665 (http://www.arcadeathome.com/forums/viewthread.php?tid=17665) someone with a newer ati card having a simliiar problem (but no real solution) but maybe you can take umbrage with that...
i'd also suggest trying advancemame, especially if you follow purple mames instructions...
good luck regardless (try those resolutions first, and see how that goes)
