At 140lb, some D lineman is going to get fed up with her and end her year with one hit. (http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/news/story?id=2187201)
-
More likely he'll be too busy checking her out and loose the game.
-
Anyone who has ever been on a football field could tell you that she has a target on her now. She might not last another game.

Make that two targets. few centimeters below her head. ;D
-
Getting burned by a chick on the football field will make guys want to kill her. She will cease to be a sexual object and become a humiliation. Someone will hurt her if she keeps playing, and it may be bad.

Which make me wonder if she has, er... custom padding.

Shoulder pads come down that far on your chest.
Plus, at 140lb, there's probably not a ton to protect. It's not like she can get hit there with a helmet or anything.

Which is why I'm filled with disdain when it comes to the whole machismo sport-guy attitude. Pathetic. If she's better, she's better. They need to stop whining.

The opinion that all players are like that, if that is what you are expressing, is uninformed and unintelligent.
There are guys like that out there, but there are more of them off of playing fields than there are on them. See your average Police report of domestic disturbance for an example.

I played plenty of sports before and during High School...hung around plenty of sports guys in College. I never said "all players", but I could, based on experience, say a good percentage are like that. Enough so that I'm turned off by the environment they've created surrounding the fandom of sports.
-
You could say the same thing about high school boys in general, seeing as how they are not adults yet.
Men behave differently than teenage boys.
Unfortunately, this girl is playing against teenage boys, which is why I fear someone will intentionally injure her.
-
Being that I deal with teenagers on a daily basis, I have to say that Chad is likely right about this.

Does the fact that she's on the ESPN site make her more or less vulnerable to being singled out on the field?
I vote less.
It would not be in anyone's interest to sigle out for attack someone who has a bit of spotlight on them. It would work against the attacker.

Sadly teenage boys don't tend to think that way (by "that way" I mean "with any logic whatsoever"), they get angry, they react.

The odds of a woman being able to play with fully grown men, such as the environment in which I play, are extraordinarily low.

If professional sports weren't meant for girls...why, in football, is the ultimate victory rewarded with a "ring"? In boxing, why do you win a "belt" and a "purse"? In hockey, why do you win a "silver cup" (to go nicely with the kitchenware)? In Nascar, they drown you in champagne? (what next...wine, roses and perfume!!)
I mean, my god, these guys are playing for clothing accessories and house decor fer crying out loud!
;D

In football, you win the Vince Lombardi trophy, not a ring.
In baseball, you win the World Series trophy, not a ring.
In hockey, you get your name engraved in the Stanley Cup, but you do not win it.
In Nascar, the winner celebrates by drinking milk.
Boxers and MMA fighters are fighting over a glorified belt buckle and pro wrestlers are pretending to fight over one.
Ultimately, they're all fighting for the same thing: large bank checks.
-
Well, she is playing the QB position. Barring the occasional sack, thats gotta be the safest spot on the field, no?
I've seen players dive out of their way to avoid hitting the QB after the ball is gone.

-
Ah. She's in trouble then. :)
This is why I don't play sports beyond the occasional frisbee toss.
-
Yep, there is inherent risk in doing anything. You could take a frisbee to the face and suffer a broken nose.
It all depends, really, on what an individual wants out of their life.
-
I want a cold beer.

Funny, the truth is I joined Football in High School just to hurt people. Did a fair amount of damage to the other teams. But I wouldn't have hit a girl any harder since, who wants to be the guy who proves how tough he is by beating the snot of out a girl?
I would have opted for more interceptions.

Given that the object is to hit the QB as hard as you can, it logically stands that you cannot hit the girl any harder than you hit the guy.
What you can do, though, is hit them in a different manner, one intended to injure rather than hurt.
-
guys are all talk. I bet, if anything, they try not to hurt her and tackle her easy
-
I wouldn't hold back. She is on the field, she is fair game, if I get a shot I will hit her as hard as I can.
I would do that to a guy, I would do that to a girl, on the field.
I would hit either of them cleanly, though, as there is a difference between hurting them and injuring them.
Hurting - yes.
Injuring - hopefully not.
-
I would do that to a guy, I would do that to a girl
See, tough-guy...you *do* swing both ways after all.

Sure. Put on a helmet and shoulder pads and see what I do to you. :-X
