Just considering a new control panel to mount a trackball and spinner and was wondering which side to mount a spinner. I use a LEFT hand for a joystick a RIGHT hand for the trackball but haven't had the chance to use a spinner in years. Which hand do most people use for their spinners and trackballs? I find it funny I use my left hand for a joystick but it feels to unco with a trackball .I will have the trackball centred so that doesn't really matter but the spinner will have to go either left or right.I also will be putting in a dedicated 4-way which will have to left of centre . Any ideas?
Thanks

I believe it is normal to place trackballs/spinners on the right as they require a bit more 'finesse' to operate.
If you're left handed you might want to put it on the left.

Yep!
My new panel will be just like you've described except with two spinners and I'm almost for sure going to be going with this layout;
(Looking from left to right across panel)
P1 JOY, P1 BUTTONS, SPINNER, TRACKBALL, P2 JOY, P2 BUTTONS, SPINNER.
It means the sticks will be a touch wider than what is optimal but it's a small trade off in my view.
Hopefully Robotron will still be playable!

If correct controls are a goal, I'd put some buttons on the left of the spinner for Tempest, a triggerstick to the right of the spinner for Tron, and some buttons to the right of the spinner for Blasteroids.
I personally prefer the spinner to the left for everything.

in the middle or to the right (if you are right handed)

After hours of Tron, I like the spinner on the left for all games. I guess it boils down to personal preference. I would suggest a cardboard mock up and mess with the spinner to see what feels most comfortable to you.

I have several cabs and I like to mix up the location of the controls, for both right- and left-handed play, the theory behind that is to improve my dexterity. The only problem with that is when I go to a friend's house or arcade I have no excuse why I suck so bad.

For me, I put the Trackball and Spinner dead center. The Spinner on top of the tracball by about 8 inches. Works well for me. And I'm left handed...
