Title: Are you an economist freak?

I can't afford to pay $75 to fill up a gas tank. If that makes me a freak, you can just throw it on the pile of other things that also make me a freak.

I only pay $40. I think SUV's have a use in some cases. but theres also people out there who drive them because they think they are cool.

Example: (http://biz3.50below.com/files/facility/porterfieldtireinc.com/cadillac-escalade.jpg)

Whats the point of a utility vehicle thats starts at $51,433.  * MSRP. Tax, title, license, dealer fees and optional equipment extra. Images may include optional equipment.

A thread, I might add, that said insult hurler took it upon himself to lock hence the appearance of a new, seamingly out-of-the-blue thread.  It also prompted me to start a thread in the Board Discussion forum asking why one has the ability to lock a thread just because one started it.

have to admint that I love my range rover (SUV i think) and also like the power I have available from its V8 engine,

Should say that I regularly have to haul 2.5 ton trailers out of ploughed fields so I do have justification for running it, company I work with uses the old 4 litre jeep cherokee's and is always breaking axles / gearboxes etc, my 20 ish year old machine just carries on.

And as we wind on down the road
Our shadows taller than our souls
There walks a lady we all know
Who shines white light and wants to show
How everything still turns to gold
And if you listen very hard
The tune will come to you at last
When all are one and one is all
To be a rock and not to roll
Woe oh oh oh oh oh
And she's buying a stairway to heaven

I call you freaks because driving fuel effecient cars won't save your children.  It might help your children's children but children shouldn't be having sex so we won't have to worry about our children's children.

Anyways, my two cars are an '04 GTO which gets about 16mpg city and 20 highway, and a '74 Ford F-100 truck which probably doesn't even get 10mpg highway :)

FYI... The hole in the Ozone is getting smaller according to the newest reports... As for SUVs they are making Hybrid ones and Chevy has a new V8 that gets 28 MPG.

If compaines didn't make SUVs then dealerships like us would have nothing with a high enough book value to absorb all of your negative equity that you have from buying that new car that is now worth $4000 less than what you currently owe on it.

There are alot of people I know that NEED to have a big vehicle.

My sister upgraded from a 9-passenger Suburban several years ago, and just upgraded from a 12-passenger to a 15-passenger van.
They haul their trailer all over with it, have 4 kids, and do alot of activities with the Jr. High group at their church.

Have you ever tried to take Mom, Dad, Grandpa, Grandma, 4 kids, 4 of their friends, and an Aunt and Uncle somewhere in a Civic?
You'd need FOUR Civics to do it.
Even at 40 MPG, you'd be using MORE gas, creating several times more pollution, taking up FOUR TIMES the parking spaces, and creating more traffic.

I tow, have a child, and also have two elderly parents that sometimes travel or run errands with me. I need a vehicle with some space. I have a crew cab pickup truck, but I think they're probably disliked by the same people that dislike SUV's. I do have a little 4 cylinder standard cab pickup for the day-to-day running around though.

What makes you a freak is that you think you need to write "Discuss" after a post on a discussion forum.  ;)

I've a 24' gas powered box truck that has averages about 6 miles to a gallon. In my truck I can see clear over any SUV, and can squash it like a bug should the need arise.  ;)

I once got stuck behind a Prius in rush hour traffic while driving the truck through Atlanta. There are damned few vehicles that can't out accellerate my truck from a stop when it's loaded. The Prius isn't one of them. ;D

That bridge is pretty close to my house. I may try the sunset suggestion one of these days. It's on one of the remaining bits of the original Route 66. Hard to believe that major highways used to be that narrow.

It's only a mini.  If the bridge crumbles, no big loss.

Yeah but Stingray probably weighs more than the car anyway. You know, drinking all that Mountain dew eating bacon and slacking off can really pack on the pounds.
Title: Re: Are you an economist freak?
Post by: Stingray on October 11, 2005, 10:29:46 am
I agree that the old bridge is getting pretty raggedy. I keep expecting it to be torn down or at least closed off. It's hardly used at all anymore. There's a modern bridge that's part of the current state highway 66 that runs paralelle to it about 20 yards away.

We don't call 'em SUV's but I hate the fricking things.  The only people who own them here are people with too much money to take their kids to school.  When they only live about 1 minutes walk away.

Besides that they are dangerous to other motorists (not to mention pedestrians) as they are so damn high.  The bumpers would go straight through mine & Stingray's windscreens.  In the right usage they are fine, but the manufacturers don't target people who want to use them properly.

Hows that 998 running Stingray?  My old 998 had a blown head gasket for several years and still went off the speedo as far as it'd go.  Rusty little bastard was a good 'un :)  Just got my Cooper going a couple of weeks ago after 8 or so months off the road.  First day it was on the road I showed one of those B*W mini's a thing or two as I flew by at 85  ;D

The little 998 runs like a champ. It's got to be one of the most bomb-proof engines ever built. My @#*%ing brakes are acting up again though.
