I'm guessing these are only available 'in the trade'.  I know most console manufacturers use them for displays but I've never seen them for sale.

I'd say mod it and rip all your games to the HDD.  If you use UnleashX as the dashboard you can even password protect stuff that you don't want them playing, though maybe with the discs out of the equation you'll no longer care.

You could softmod it (free) and put in a  160 GB hard drive for $40 (http://www.compusa.com/products/product_info.asp?&ref=cj&pfp=cj&product_code=314482).  That'll hold a good 40 Xbox games.

Problem I have with my modded xbox is that if I disconnect the power for too long then next time I start it I have to open the disc tray, turn it off and then back on again.

Yeah, if you use a hack/mod that dont save clock time properly :)

Also can be fixed by using a dashboard that pulls time from ethernet, like MXM or Unleash

Yeah, I'm not sure why opening the door fixes the problem but it seems to work...

I have UnleashX but I don't really want it plugged into a network as it is in my cabinet.

I didn't know that.  I've only ever chipped Xboxes and don't know anybody with a softmod.

Why not just lock all your games away?  ;)

Mine's chipped too...the clock reset thing just seems to cause problems.  Not sure if this is only the case for my (Xenium) chip (?)

Weird....Mine has a SmartXX, but I've chipped five more Xboxes in the past few months for friends and family with the Xenium Spice because I don't trust my soldering on other peoples' Xboxes and none of them have that issue.  Err.....I guess that actually depends on how long is too long to have it unplugged.  I know that my brother's was unplugged at least long enough to drive from Utah to California (10 hours or so) and I'm sure it was unplugged for longer than that cos they were moving so they had to pack it up, move, and then unpack.  It was probably unplugged for days.

At least I'll know what to tell them if they ever do have a problem.

Hello mo1e,

The simplest way, I think to stop your brothers from playing your xbox games is by using the parental controls built into your xbox.
You can set a password in the parental controls so they can only play Early Childhood games.  I doubt there are very many Early Childhood games that your brothers would play.  Also, the same can be done with movies if they lose your Dvds.

I hear the xbox will lose it's time setting in 3 hours.  I think what might happen is that the xbox boots into XeniumOS when the settings are lost.  As I am using an arcade monitor (RGB out) I might not be able to see the XeniumOS screen, since it does not work with RGB (I have to use a composite video cable to TV when operating XeniumOS).

Even still, wierd that you haven't encountered similar problems.

If you want to just lock the XBOX's drive you could cut the wire that goes to the eject button and install a secret button elsewhere on the console to eject it.  You could even do that with the power button too if you wanted to keep them from playing all together!  :P
