Title: taking pc monitor out of its case, and has a cage around it

hi guys, im using a 19 inch pc monitor in my cocktail cabinet which im mounting via 4 very long wood posts (seems to work quite well) anyway ive taken it out of its plastic case and all the workings are sorounded by a big metal cage, should i leave this cage on?? looks safer this way, and also is it ok to unhook the monitors front control panel and power button and leave them off?? as they are connectors that join them to the monitor plastic front and the monitor autos on when i boot up the machine. all help much appreciated.....

Leave the cage, keeps that high voltage thing in check.  ALso as for the switches, if you disconnect them the monitor should still work, but why not just remove them from the plastic, and then leave them connected to the monitor and just "stuff them in there"
I removed all the plastic from my sony monitor with out any problems at all and just left the switches hooked up and put in my cab behind my bezel.

Also be careful around the power switch.  On my IBM P200 (rebadged Sony 21" monitor) the power switch is connected directly to the power input.  I found this out when my hand brushed the switch PCB while I had the monitor plugged in.  Fortunately, Canada is 120V so the shock only made me jump & swear.
