Post by: danny_galaga on October 08, 2005, 02:08:56 am
saw a couple of ultracade machines in the amusement arcade today. i was quite surprised, i didnt think they were THAT big an outfit that they would be exporting. these were BREEDERS CUP or something like that. some kinda horse racing game. not my cup of tea. so would this be their own product? or something licenced?

I think they've got some new horse racing thing going on.  I read some post by Foley that mentioned it.  Seemed wierd to me but, then again, I'm a guy who doesn't understand the draw of Golden Tee, so what do I know.

Ultracade's Breeders Cup is a cheaper verison of Sega's Derby Cup system.

well there's even a Dutch Ultracade site (www.ultracade.nl) from the importer (Hatex International), so you bet they export !

However it's not full size cabs, but upgrade kits for excisting cabs and game packs only....

Never saw an actual machine here however.

If Foley is exporting to a pissy little marketplace like Australia he must be doing OK....  :(

Here's a story about the game.

http://www.ultracade.com/news/93/ultracade8482-gets-playmeters-cover-story

In case anyone forgot, there are rules for posting on here.  Everyone always overlooks them as a special case any time the word "UltraCade" or the name "David Foley" appears, which is unfair in my opinion.

If the rules for this forum were enforced, all hate-filled messages related to UC and DF would be removed from this forum permanently and sent to post-hell.

But apparently, even the moderators of the forum are in full support of this UC "boycott" as IF anybody here ever even bought one thing from UC.

I feel like nobody treats me like a member of the forum, and instead ridicules me because I work for David.

I'm personally very upset about this.  I'd really like all you guys to stop bashing UC.

I know these requests will fall on deaf ears.  That's fine.  But I just thought I would post my mind up once again.

Some have.  And you can't tell me you didn't expect to get razzed a bit for what your boss did.  He made his own bed.

Ultracade was available as a conversion kit, so that could easily be exported.  The breeders thing I don't know.  It's not "my cup of tea".

The point is he made an attack on the thing (ie. MAME) which drives most of our self built/restored/modified machines.
And of course we'd never buy from him (that's not to say he makes crap, but all the hoopla about breeders cup is over the top). Otherwise this place would be called "Buy Your Own Arcade Controls".

PS: Bacon rules.

I have commented very little on the Ultracade issue but I believe Ahigh's (modified while i was typing!) post deserves a response. I can understand your frustration with negative comments directed toward the for which you work, but I believe you are missing an important point. The CEO of the company for which you work made a choice to engage in unethical and illeagle business practices.

I don't think that's true.  I've seen a number of threads where you've posted and I think people treat you the same as they would even if you didn't work for Foley.

Dude, the guy started the process of taking legal control over something he had nothing to do with.  Something he didn't create.  Something he never worked on.   He tried to take legal control of something that didn't belong to him.   That is un-debatable.  That is the 100% truth.

This isn't about who mailed who what C&D letter and why.  Or who it was the pulled the eBay auctions and why.  This isn't about somebody claiming an email said XYZ while another claims the email said WXY.   The fact is that he tried to get legal & financial control over something that wasn't his.

He's got lots of excuses as for why he might have done this, but I don't care.  His reasons (truthful or not) are irrelevant.   Charles Manson could say that he had people killed so the public would wake up to the see what's going on, but that wouldn't make the Manson killings acceptable.

Action is character.  David Foley's documented, undisputed actions tell me more than I ever wanted to know about this guy.  If you choose to defend and support him, then you're defending and supporting who he is, who is a guy who tried to legally gain control of something that doesn't belong to him.

... to attempt to restore UltraCade's reputation with this (BYOAC) and the Mame community...

I don't think it can.  It was a direct, purposeful, hypocritical, illegal and immoral attack.  There isn't anything that he could have done to make it worse.  Even now, he doesn't see anything wrong with what he did.  Nobody can trust the guy, so nobody can trust his company.  He won't even answer some of the questions posted to him, and he lies in the ones he does answer.

I don't think he hurt any BYOAC members who are strict hobbiest and don't profit from the illegal use of Mame.

I guess you don't see anything wrong with what he did either.  It's pointless to discuss it all over again.  Until you guys actually realize why people are upset, you'll never get anywhere.

hmm...i had a thought.  does ultracade dump their own ROMS?  or did they do what everyone else does and just download them, from somewhere and buy the rights to them?  (not necessarily in that order.)

I don't usually read these threads with *cade in them but this one is fairly new.   All I can say is well said btoddkelley and do your best Ahigh.  Heck I worked for the government here and sometimes it is not fun.
