Ahh! I thought you were quoting Elwood Blues on SNL after 9/11...
http://snltranscripts.jt.org/01/01dupdate.phtml
Elwood Blues: It's affirmative. Although I am old enough to have served time in Vietnam, I did not. Mainly because at the time I was serving time for grand theft heavy construction equipment. However, I did experience the Cold War firsthand in primary school, as a fallout shelter monitor. Now, that particular fear was a component of the Communist geopolitcal objective.
Mighty Mack: And look what happened there - a prolitariat revolution that didn't even last 100 years, and ended in a bottomless turd-swirl which sucked a culturally and resource-rich people down into a gangster-run kleptocracy.
Elwood Blues: Correct. So now, we have the Islamic Fundamentalist objective. However flawed it was, at least the Soviets offered an alternative. And what is the alternative from this new wrath of freaks? Squatting in decimated mud hovels wearing fece-siled nightshirts and flip-flops, eating dirt and white lice burgers with nights spent beside grown men who roll around smooching each ball sacs, getting their compulsory beards all tangled up in each other's ass hairs!
Mighty Mack: Right! Do these criminal maniac lice-eaters really expect their interpretation of scripture to appeal to any rational Muslims anywhere? Where women can't go to or teach school, practice medicine, law or business, forcing them to stay indoors and impose illiteracy on a whole new generation of broads?
Elwood Blues: For this alone, the dwelling holes of these psycho alpha males deserve to be blowtorched like a squirming nest of May 10th catepillars!
Mighty Mack: And so, Elwood, your point is?
Elwood Blues: My point? Well, my point is nothing will stop our way of life.
And nothing will stop the U.S. Postal Service.

hey George... I was chatting with God the other day, and he mentioned casually that he thinks you're a knob.
Just thought you'd wanna know. :)

Its things like this that makes me want to shoot myself for being a American. ::)
-
Go ahead. That leaves more for the real Americans.
-
It's possible to be a patriotic American and still think George W. Bush is an idiot, despite what the far right would have you believe.
-S
-
I think Bush is an idiot. You don't have to agree with your leaders.
You do have to be against shooting yourself simply for being an American in order to be a patriotic American.
-
I don't think Mamejunkie actually intends to shoot himself. Did you leave your sense of humor on the bathroom counter again this morning? ;)
-S
-
nah, thats typical for chad. he flushed it btw
-
Someone has to be the patriotism police. :police:
I'm all for freedom of speech, but if America is that bad, there are thousands of miles of borders by which it can be exited.
Love it, change it, or leave it. :-*
-
Patriotism doesn't mean blinding backing and stoopid & moronic decisions our government makes. Hell, even our government has differences in views.
Why is it when someone speaks up against the war or Bush it is consider Anti-American?
I am glad we have people with extreme views on the left and right. That way I can stand in the middle and have someone fight the war and legalize wacky tobaccy and the same time :-* :-* :-* :-*
I'm not leaving anytime soon. Still going to boo the bad plays and cheer the good ones.
-
Why is it when someone speaks up against the war or Bush it is consider Anti-American?
Because that's what the propaganda machine has told people to think. Ever listen to that religious "news" show on late at night? It's scary. They come right out and say being a democrat means you support terrorists. I'd love to see a show that was the opposite of this one. I think SNL is as close as I'll get ;).
I'm glad for the far left/right because it makes me seem normal :P.
*twitch*
*bark*
-
I think I'm going to start a moderate extremist group. Who's with me? For our first protest, everone can come over to my place to get drunk and throw tater tots at the TV.
-S
-
Patriotism doesn't mean blinding backing and stoopid & moronic decisions our government makes.
-
If getting drunk and throwing tater tots at the TV doesn't count as doing something, then I can't imagine what does. ;)
-S
-
im all about the tator tots and drunkness, where do i sign up
-
Well you still have the option to STFU.
-
hey chad, how bout you take your turn so i can finish whupping you
-
Can I put STFU on the board?

umm, no =p

Is a comment really necessary??
Well, you probably have nothing to say on the matter anymore, but yeah, I would like to hear you comment on how you have no problems running with false stories AND can say with a straight face that you "get your information from unbiased sources, unlike your American journalists".
If your claims weren't so pathetically myopic, they'd be funny. As it is, you just keep proving to anyone willing to do even a cursory look into your "facts" that you've got a hardon for anything anti-Bush.
Oh, and MameJunkie, put the bullets down. You may wish to shoot yourself for being suckered by an anti-American hack's "unbiased" stories, but there's no reason to shoot yourself for being an American. You can post your own idiotic rumors/lies instead of relying on Dexter. Perhaps ring up Dan Rather if you're looking for pointers or how to start ::)
Hey Dexter, you weren't doing any reporting in LA during Katrina by any chance, were you? Does your last name happen to be Farrakhan?
BOO! :o
-
It makes you look ignorant when you claim you have an unbiased media feeding you information and then you post the idiocy you do.
-
And the "author" of this rumor starts to backpedal:
http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/10/07/bush.report.reut/ (http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/10/07/bush.report.reut/)
"Shaath, who at the time was foreign minister under then- prime minister Abbas, confirmed what he had told the BBC."
How is that backpedalling? He says the quotes are what Bush said. Just that he doesn't think Bush meant God was whispering in his ear.
-
Oh dear, you gonna change the record soon Drew or is the 8 track in your pickup truck stuck on 'loop'??
I think it might be. It always starts with some dude who sounds like he's from Ireland saying something similar to "Bush sucks and is running the world into the ground - I've got unbiased proof......aaawwwwck".
Oh, and nice answer to the points brought up. It actually makes my "looped 8 track" sound like the story the song is telling is one of those "real life" stories of something that actually happened. Any idea on why Mr Abbas felt the need to refute your lies story, or are we getting these reports of Abbas' actions from that "biased U.S. media" you seem to think doesn't exist in your neck of the woods?
You're quite honestly a flaming idiot if you still want to tell us you are lucky to be in the only area in the ENTIRE WORLD that has an "unbiased media". Maybe your little town newspaper MIGHT be, but you have yet to give us anything from them. It seems you've equated DIFFERENT coverage with UNBIASED coverage, yet can't stomach admitting to us that you in fact AREN'T blessed with a media that could be described as unbiased.
And the "author" of this rumor starts to backpedal:
http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/10/07/bush.report.reut/ (http://edition.cnn.com/2005/WORLD/europe/10/07/bush.report.reut/)
"Shaath, who at the time was foreign minister under then- prime minister Abbas, confirmed what he had told the BBC."
How is that backpedalling? He says the quotes are what Bush said. Just that he doesn't think Bush meant God was whispering in his ear.
His initial story was "that's what Bush said". Either it's VERY creative editing by the BBC removing his "but we didn't take it literally", or HE now sees how stupid he looks now that Abbas himself (remember? The guy who Bush supposedly said this to? The guy who had FIRST-hand knowledge, not some guy who worked under Abbas and might not be the most reliable "source"?) issued his denial and wants to distance himself from his absolute comments.
You're potentially right, I'll give you that. He may NOT be backpedaling.
How's this.....Either he's backpedaling from his idiotic statements to the BBC, or the BBC doesn't mind parsing his words to make him look like an idiot.
Better?
-
Point is, Bush is still a fool. Period. :-*
And don't ask me for proof cause I got none.
I hear there's plenty in Iraq though (or lack of).
Moral of this post: Short pointless and un-informed arguments are better than long, sprawling un-informed arguments (see above)
-
Either it's VERY creative editing by the BBC removing his "but we didn't take it literally", or
Or maybe they gave the guy a direct quote and he interpreted it in a perfectly reasonable way. Then the white house called the Palestinians and said, "HEY!!! We give you mother ---smurfs--- a lot of money!" And now you get them saying, "Well, he literrally said all those things, but we didn't take him seriously."
BBC is one of the best major news outlets in the world Drew. BBC may have got it wrong (though I doubt it), but they obviously can be assumed credible absent evidence to the contrary. It's pretty reasonable to "run with" material from the BBC.
-
When you've got the guy who this would have been said to (Abbas) feeling the need to issue statements that say Bush in fact DID NOT say it, evidence to the contrary is no longer absent. I feel comfortable in stating that running with material from the BBC for a production piece (NOT a news story, a little "60 minutes" type show) just might not be the most prudent thing to do. Has Dan Rather's gaffe taught us NOTHING?
Abbas' statement wasn't that Bush said those things and they didn't take him seriously. Specifically, "A statement in Abbas's name released by his office said an excerpt from an interview with Palestinian Information Minister Nabil Shaath due to be broadcast by the BBC in which Shaath described a meeting with Bush in June 2003 gave a "completely false" account."
"This report is not true," the Abbas statement said today. "I have never heard President Bush talking about religion as a reason behind the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. President Bush has never mentioned that in front of me on any occasion and specifically not during my visit in 2003."
We've got second-hand statments being made by someone who said Bush said it, and by someone possibly speaking for Abbas stating it's a completely false account. Now, you may read that differently, but "completely false" is interpreted by me that Shaath isn't telling the truth, to me meaning it was NEVER SAID. NOT "he said it but it's not taken literally".
Boss, got no problems with you thinking Bush is an idiot. None whatsoever. You've also never been so loony as to state you're informed by an unbiased media so you've got "the straight scoop" that we're not privy to, and then give us information that's not just disputed from one of the principals of the story, but is stated to be completely false.
-

Does the Irish media still tell everyone that birth control is immoral and should be illegal?
-
I would hardly call PBS tiny. Is PBS tiny?
-
I think he may be confusing PBS with public access.
-S
-
Anyhoo I won't be repeating myself. Irish members of the board know that RTE is not some tiny 'pbs' station like you think it is and is in fact the largest station in this country, with no affiliation or leanings to the right wing dirt in the states.
Then why have you NEVER given us ANYTHING from this supposed bastion of unbiased reporting? Why, when you supposedly have been blessed with this shining example of "differing" from my medai? Why is it that you are so fortunate, yet run with the stories you do that are proven to be false?
The "you are a flaming idiot" exists because you still hope against hope that you're correct in your assumption that your media IS unbiased, when even your brothers-in-arms don't defend your hope. Demonstrate your mental aptitude by giving us some of these beautiful gems of reporting you're privy to. We'd all LOVE to see 'em. I have a sneaking suspicion, though, that the lack of bias you see is only demonstrated in stories about the local dogcatcher. Unless he's a conservative.
I do it to poke fun at someone who gives us false and fake stories and hasn't run them through his bias-detecting media. I find it the funniest thing in the world that you believe what you do about your media but post the things you do. For someone who holds himself out as one who's smart enough to "know" he's right, you sure do seem to have believed in some "Easter Bunny" and "Tooth Fairy" stories.
C'mon. Post us the story from your unbiased media debunking your initial posting. It's GOT TO be there, since they'd want to get the story straight, right? Perhaps you can write 'em a letter and have 'em look into how you got duped so easily.

We're fine until his third round of edits.

I only do that for directions.
I'll have to add "careful not to insert head up rectum too far"
Then I can edit again. ;D

During the invasion of iraq they showed reports from cbs/fox and al jazeera, as well as various international reporters. We saw the real deal.
The fact that you think an independent irish state owned station could have a bias for either side in american politics is typical of republicans overstating their importance in the grand scheme of things.
edit for spelling.
-
The fact that you think an independent irish state owned station could have a bias in the american elections is typical of republicans overstating their importance in the grand scheme of things.
The fact that it is state owned is exactly why it cannot be unbiased.
The notion of an unbiased media outlet, in the modern world, is obsolete anyway. There is no such thing as unbiased news anymore.
The problem is usually in detecting exactly what the bias happens to be for a given news outlet.
-
I see from your speed of posting that you did not watch the video. Please watch it.
I feel sorry for anyone that cannot see past the corruption of their own media and grasp the fact that independence still exists.
Heres some proof. The irish government itself is giving the same station flak for showing a program clled 'rip off republic' that did not show them in a good light.

That was just at that moment. Today, many more things are funnier than that. Today, I find it the saddest thing in the world.
I'm always on the lookout for new "funniest thing in the world" items. It's easier than trying to maintain a level of outrage.

Finally, a television station run by robots, for robots. Now the final phase of my dehumanisation can begin! ;D
Having read the articles, I too am worried about the high cost of living (http://www.theonion.com/content/node/30975) these days, and the notion that someone can produce an article which bears no relation to the person who produced it...

I love it.

My unbiased reporting has ALWAYS referred to the RTE television station in Ireland. But please, don't let a little thing like that, or any other facts get in the way of your pettiness. Please continue, your predictability sustains me.....LOL! :D
