It seems that pretty much every game I've been waiting for is coming out this month...
Soul Caliber 3
Fear
Serious Sam 2
Stubbs the Zombie
Age of Empire 3
Call of Duty 2
Black & White 2
City of Villians
Quake 4
Star Wars Battlefront 2
Tony Hawks American Wasteland
Way too much to play, and no time to play it in. If you can't tell, I'm mainly a PC gamer with the occasional ps2 thrown in.
-
Interestingly, there's nothing on that list that I'm terribly excited about. The new Prince of Persia comes out next month though, I'll get that one. Peter Jackson's King Kong looks like it might be worth checking out, also a November release.

i want
soul cal 3
quake 4
black & white 2
fear
-
Will Halo 2 ever be released to the PC?
-
I never played the original Black & White, though a lot of people rave about it. Is it available on any consoles or was it a PC only title?
-S
-
fear looks good
-
X-Men Lengends II looks promising. I've still never played the first one, which I also think looks good. Never have seen it on the shelves locally.

i DLed xmen legends 2, its pretty good

You mean a demo version of course ;)
-
I just finished my PS2 cab so I am anxiously awaiting SC II since it is PS2 port only.
Star Wars Battlefront 2 better have smarter AI. The game is still tons of fun though. Can't wait for this one either.
-
I bet I will never play any of those games. Ever.
-
you probably wont, cause youre not cool
-
One cannot try to be cool. One can only be cool.
-
Also Dragonball Z: Sparkling (Japan) or Budokai Tenkaichi (US) is coming out. If you like the anime then this will rock. Still trying to figure out why they released the names like they did.
SC3 is gonna be awesome. I will however miss Link. He was one of my fave fighters in the GC version.
-
I'm actually really excited about Shadow of the Colossus (http://ps2.gamezone.com/gamesell/p26448.htm) (PS2)...I played the demo and this game rocks. I'm a sucker for new types of gameplay...and there's nothing cooler than scaling a 100-story tall beast, trying to lodge your sword in their skull, as they try to shake you loose the whole time.

I have heard a small bit about this game and have been curious about it. Time to do some research.

I almost listed this game as it does look pretty cool, but I doubt I'll ever play it.
-
I took a look. Shadow of the Colossus does look cool. I don't have a PS2, though, and have no intention of getting one unless I fall into another one for less than $50.
-
Reading the concept a bit more, this is a lot like the type of game I was hoping for a few years ago, when What Dreams May Come hit the theaters. I have always thought the concept articulated in that movie would make one hellish, provocative concept with serious visual potential.

how many ---smurfing--- sequels can there be! game developers are turning into lazy lazy ---daisies---..
the line from that stone temple pilots song comes to mind.
"think for me, i cant bear to"

Never saw that movie, so I can't comment, but as far as gaming visuals go...it's top notch. Makes me hope for a PC port w/ Anti-aliasing, so it'd look even better.
In playing the demo, I've found that the gameplay mechanics are a cross between Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, with acrobatic, puzzle-solving maneuvers...and a mixture of the better Final Fantasy battles, but in real-time. You have nothing more than a bow n' arrow, and a sword...through the whole game.
The fighting and climbing feels physically exhaustive...you really have to move the character around a lot...since climbing the colossus involves jumping from one part to another while the entire structure is in motion and pissed off. The best part is trying to reflect the light into it's eyes, to reveal the first in a series of weaknesses. There's nothing like standing in the path of one of these giants trying to get the angle just right. It's nerve-racking. In the end, bringing the giant down really feels rewarding...an element missing from a lot of today's games.

Can't say I've ever played Prince of Persia, and the only modern Final Fantasy I've played sucked so bad I didn't get far. I was like 6 hours in and had played about 45 minutes. The rest was watching and I kept falling asleep. I forget which one it was... maybe Final Fantasy X.
-
Mr C...where'd you get the demo?
-
Yeah, I saw a preview of Shadow of the Colossus recently and thought it looked amazing. I'll never own a PS2, but maybe I'll get a crack at it on the PS3, which I kinda think I'll own eventually.
-
Mr C...where'd you get the demo?
October issue of Official Playstation Mag (PSM). You can get it at Borders, Blockbuster, etc...
-
I'm excited for Quake 4. I didn't care for Q3 much for some reason. Never did quite figure out why. The Q3 source code is available for downloading, so maybe someone will create something cool with it.
X-mas is coming, that's why October sees a lot of releases. Hardcore gamers buy it right away, then the x-mas season takes over.

Cool. That issue is at home somewhere still in the plastic bag. I never ordered a subscription, but the magazines keep coming anyway. I'll rip it open and give it a whirl, looks very good.
Chad- I think you said you have a Gamecube. You should pick up Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time. I'd have to say that it's one of my top three or four favorite games on the current console gen. IMO it's the perfect blend of platforming, fighting and puzzle solving with some new play mechanics thrown in to make seem unlike anything else.

Eh, like I have time for that. I'm not into games that require you to play for 90 minutes at a time.

You haven't built a cab, you're selling your pinball machine before you even had a chance to play it, and you don't play console games for more than 90 minutes?
What *do* you play? (just curious)
mrC

So play it for 30 minutes at a time. Seriously, you're missing out if you haven't tried it.

Ive never liked the prince of persa games, just not my cup of tea i guess.
-
I loved the first one. The second was pretty good, but I was dissapointed that they chose to make it so dark. It was still good enough that I'll buy the third.
-S
-
i love sonic games, especially sonic adventure 1 & 2. and this looks like its gonna be BADASS, literally. Shadow is all riding motorcycles and using GUNS. looks awesome

Lately, Visual Pinball (PC), TG16 games on my TurboExpress, and Virtual Boy.
-
chads a bit (read: ages) behind the times. give him 10 years he will start playing Xbox eventually when it becomes 15$ at a yard sale
-
I like unique gaming experiences. Vectrex, Virtual Boy, TurboExpress.
I count the TE as unique since it not only plays the same cards as the main console but until the PSP came out, still had the best screen of any handheld.
(I don't count the Nomad because the Nomad's screen is so bad it's best use is as a urinal cake)
-
The Vectrex is one of my favorite video game items. If I had to whittle my collection down to two or three systems, the Vectrex would make the cut without even having to think hard.
-S
-
I don't consider any "classic gamer" much more than a poser unless he owns at least one Vectrex.

What's a Vectrex??? *goes back to posing*
-
Google it.
The only nonarcade vector based video game system.
-
Some people have a problem with sarcasm. Then there's Chad.... ;)
-
:D
-S
-
Yes. Yes I do.
Then again, sarcasm has no place around the holiness of the Vectrex.
-
sorry i dont think i would be entertained by any game on that system for more than 5 minutes. NES > vectrex
-
NES doesn't have a 3D version of Asteroids. Or a light pen.
Most of all, it's not vector based.
-
vector is overrated, theres like 5 good vector games and thats being generous. its straight lines, i dont get the infatuation?
-
It's one of those things, either you get it or you don't.
-
Eddie/'Insert name of 'Millionare' host, I choose 'I don't get it'

Poser.

Poser.
Yes I do use it. Made a model of Tommy the other day:

You're too young to remember when they were king of the arcades. It's a nostalgia thing.
-S
-
Not for me, I still think it's cooler than raster.
-
ah, you weird old people stuck in you rold ways. new technology = good
-
I run Windows off punch cards. it takes me 10 days to post a message here...
-
That explains a lot, actually.
-
Not for me, I still think it's cooler than raster.
So do I, but I still that's a product of nostalgia.
-S
-
I consider it, for myself, a fascination with the technology. I find it very cool that they went and took the display directly from an oscilloscope, programmed a PCB to control the waveforms, and used it to drive an arcade game.
-
One of these days I'm going to come across a vector arcade game locally that I can actually afford. I intend to spend that day giggling like a little girl.
-S
-
guys so i found this really old crappy cab, something like 'crapple castles' i dunno, well i painted over the sides anyway. and i ripped out that crap monitor and tossed it, wouldnt display any of my MAME games right!! so yeah i threw in a nice P4 computer and im running mame in it now. sucks though the 25 inch tv didnt fit too well i had to cut holes in the side to make it fit
-
It's sad. I didn't even know there was a battlefront 2 coming out. AOE 3 should be f'ing sweet.
Just don't make our eyeballs bleed. (http://www.penny-arcade.com/view.php?date=2005-09-09&res=l)

Admit it. You don't need vector games to giggle like a little girl. ;)

Ha ha, joke is on Seph, Crystal Castles is not a vector. :-*

I assume he meant Star Castle.

Definately, VECTREX is a requirement for a serious collector - ive got one but only about 8 games for it. Playing and finishing ULTIMA I on the apple//e in the early 80s (dates me but) is quite an event. quake3 online is pretty fun - yes the graphics look flourescent (sp?), but, it is good gameplay. I am looking forward to Serious Sam2 -- I might find it on eMule and then purchase it once ive enjoyed the demo. hmmMMM?
-
SC III!
-
Yay Videogames!
I was very pumped for Serious Sam 2 but the demo they released a few weeks back was extremely underwhelming. I'm going to have to "try before I buy" through the p2p channels.
Price of Persia: Sands of Time was awesome! If you haven't played it it's definitely worth picking up. Another game I've been playing recently with the same kind of cool ambiance and unique play mechanics is Beyond Good & Evil. It's really a beautiful game, unfortunately it didn't sell too well so a lot of people have never heard of it.

That's also a big favorite of mine on the current gen. If you haven't played it yet, you'll probably also like ICO if you liked BG&E and PoP.

I agree with all of that. Ico is a must play.
After going to E3 this year, only 3 games had me interested in them in any way or sort.
1. Shadow of the Colossus (makers of Ico)
2. Zelda (duh)
3. Soul Calibur 3 (looks cool enough. not a must buy, but considering all the absolute junk thats out there, this looks bounds and leaps better)
And on a side note:
WHEN are they going to implement an analog control stick on everything (cellphones, pdas, etc..) and use the Beyond Good and Evil text input method. SO easy, SO fast, and SO simple! Rent the game to at least play with this. It's simply brilliant.
