Finally, after 17 months and 15 days, the NHL emerges from the darkness tonight in what I hope is a Blaze of Glory. Many a canuck tonight will be glued to the set as the new season unfolds.
For the first time in league history, all 30 teams are in action on Opening Night, including my Team the Ottawa Senators (slated I might add to win the cup this year ;) ) visiting our arch rivals the Toronto Maple Leafs (Go Sens Go!!!)
I even hear that each fan in each venue will receive a mini Stanley Cup. Ahh well, I'm sure they'll be for sale on E-Bay soon!
I can hear the Hockey Night in Canada Theme song as I write this "Da Da Na Da Na, Da Da Na Da Na, Da Da Na Da Na Da, Da Da Da Daaaa Daaaaaaa!!!" ;D
-
So I am not the only one excited about this! I am going to the Wild game tonight. They are giving away mini Stanley Cups here also. I am pumped.

I can't wait for the games tonight!! I bought season tickets to this years Stanley Cup Champs, the Pittsburgh Penguins! Unfotunately their first home game isn't until Saturday.
-
Flyers fan here. Definately looking forward to tonight. I used to play in a league. My daughter was born last year (and consequently stopped playing), and with the lockout - feels like I've been in hockey hibernation.

How is WI not part of FSN Midwest! At least I could see some wings or chicago. But no, WI is in FSN North and we don't get hockey. We will only get what OLN serves up :(
So, While FSN Minnesota, FSN Detroit, and FSN Midwest get to watch Hockey, I get to watch Boxing, Football, and Poker....
Man, I am going ot have to get a job in MN again...

In case anyone is curious, here's what Vegas thinks...
Talk about parity in the league---only PHI is single-digits-to-one!
Anaheim Mighty Ducks 40-1
-
New York Rangers 60-1
Philadelphia Flyers 5-1
So tonight's game on OLN should be a rather exciting game if you are a Flyers fan.
-
Same goes for us Blues fans!!!
St. Louis Blues: 50-1
Detroit Red Wings: 12-1
-
This is what i am looking forward to tonight
Minnesota Wild 40-1
Calgary Flames 12-1

Been wearing my Devils sweater all day now. #23 Gomez. My #3 Daneyko is for admiring only since he's been retired. ;D
Can't wait to hear Doc and Chico's voices tonight.
BTW, I heard that NHL requires at least one hockey fan be in each of the 50 states, so that's why I moved to Indiana, to make Commish Bettman happy.
Long live hockey!
Art
"Jets fan, so football season over"
"Indiana's #1 hockey fan"
"Indiana's ONLY hockey fan?"
"So HOT in this 90 degree weather with Devils Sweater"
"Beer O'clock NOW"

What a game! Just got home. Wild 6 - Flames 3
There was a hattrick with 3.9 seconds to go in the game and a goal with 1.5 seconds left in the period. Great game.

Look at the scores. The moajority od the winners had at least 4 goals. So, maybe the new rules are going to work :)

I hope your right. I dont want to see 30 powerplays per game, but if we can see the offencive stars do what they do best, I will be happy.

Look at the scores.

right, we have to see a month from now how everything goes. The goalies got their new gear shortly before preseason so they have to get use to it.

As my 8 year old son said this morning "Go Sens Go", and "The Maple Leafs Suck". ;)
Very close game, and they won just by the skin of their teeth.
They played like CRAP! I hope this is just first night jitters...
-
Went to the BlackHawks game last night, they lost but I did get my Stanley cup! After the game was over you could see people running up and down the isles lookin for Stanley cups people left or forgot about. One guy had like 50 of them, weird. GO WHITE SOX

Anyone got a list of the rules changes? This thread really got me interested in finding out what exactly changed. It may actually make me a fan.

Good start: 11 of 15 sold out arenas. Let's see how things go during the long winter months...

The whole shootout thing is cool. no ties. In preseason they tried allowing game to end in tie and shootout goes towards standings.

Several arenas had record attendance (like Xcel Energy Center). Record attendeance for the NHL, 98.1%
