Let me know what you think.
-
I like it but find the writing and spacecraft kind of blend together. Have you tried some other colours so the two appear more "stand-outish"?
-
Thanks for the feedback. Good call on the colors and making the wording stand out more.
Like I said I just threw this one together as a rough idea. I just noticed how pixelated what I put up was.
I don't have Photoshop but I do have Fireworks and I'm going to use that to make this look better.
I'm now thinking about putting the space invader ship on the bottom shooting up one of the letters like it's a shield and some aliens on the top. Probably some Galaxians too. I'll post an updated one when I get something a little better.
I'm totally open to ANY other ideas, I won't be offended if you think this is crap either.
BTW, what dimensions should this be? What sort of file types can I take to Kinkos to have them print on something for a marquee (Mylar?)? Fireworks saves everything as a .png but I can export to several different file types.

try greenish letters a slimy green would be cool
-
Slimy green letters would be cool but I'm trying to keep a black and blue theme going...hmm...maybe slimy green letters but have the background blue planets or something instead of black?
-
Okay, I put this into Fireworks and redid the entire thing. How about comments on this one.
-
Maybe a bit of an outer glow on the lettering to make it stand out a bit more?
-
How's that?
-
Id hate to say it but i think cheesy and cheap :(
Try removing them, or try some more 'futuristic' images from more recent arcade games, or maybe add the glow to the current images as well to try and blend them into the overall artwork a bit better.
Cheers

I agree with Ginno; the Galaxians/Invaders don't really fit well into the composition. I think the problem is their bright colors. Maybe you could try adjusting the hue/intensity of that layer so you get something a little more pleasing to the eye.
Also, make sure the alien head and the swirly graphic at the bottom came from high resolution source images. The swirly graphic looks a little pixelated already and this will be magnified when you get it printed.
Overall it looks pretty cool!

Thanks for the feedback. The swirly thing is a circle with some fx I created in Fireworks so it shouldn't be pixelated when printed big. For some reason when I exported so I could post here everything looked like that. The Alien head I got from some web site and modified it a little.
I've removed the old school arcade graphics and changed the font. I'll post revised pics for feedback soon.
I think I was trying to do too much and ended up taking it in a bad direction.

Okay, here is my latest.
-
Hey, that marquee is really starting to hit my sweet spot!
-
I would go for "Mame the aliens" instead.
No need to explain the Maim/Mame pun of course.... even though I just did.
-
After doing more reading I decided that I really needed higher resolution and found that Fireworks kept crashing when I tried to bump it up. So, I got a copy of Photoshop CS and redid it.
I would like feedback on this and some advice. I don't think I'm happy with the border, I would like something that looks like what I had on my Fireworks design. Here's where I could use some help. I don't know how to get a better border. I created a new layer, drew a sqare with rounded edges. The sqare is black and I created the border around it. The only options I saw for the border were solid colors, dither, and textures. What I want is the border to look like a ribbon. How can I do this? Any ideas on other stuff I should try. It took me like an hour just getting it to look like this since I hadn't used PS before.
I also want to add some stars in the background but it was getting too late last night.
Any helpful PS suggestions are welcome!
-
thats really starting to come along nicely.
What about this ALIEN head.

Something is bugging me about the one your using.
-
A final touch could be some sort of light burst behind the text.
-
I think when it comes to marquee lettering, bigger is always better. If you look at examples of marquees from original games, the lettering often takes up much of the marquee.
On yours, bump up the lettering size/thickness. Try a couple of strokes on the outline to increase the thickness of the lettering.
-
I'm going nutz. I just want to be done. Please give me your vote/opinions. Also, if you know how I could make the border look cool like the last picture above I did in Fireworks I would appreciate it. I'm starting to get the hang of PS but it's slow going since I only have 256 RAM..

or these...
-
Okay last one I promise!
-
Looks good...the bigger lettering makes a difference. See what you think about not having a border. Something like this quick mockup?
-
Would never want a pic of a grey alien in my house... blech.

That Alien head sort of reminds me of Napster or some rave poster. I actually like the one I've got but thanks for the feedback!
Now if you could help me track down a spaceship that looks cool I would probably be all over that. :D
