Title: What games have I missed since Mame v0.69?
Post by: pointdablame on October 01, 2005, 12:12:25 pm
NOTE: I'm not sure if this is better suited for the Main forum or Software... mods please move if you think it's better in Software. Thanks

Well i finally took the time to grab mame .100 to see if there were any games worth playing since my last upgrade.  I started looking at Maws, but that didnt last long :)

So... are there any games truly worth playing from Mame .69 to Mame .100??  I think there might be some newer Street Figther and/or Capcom/marvel/etc games.... I'll have to take a look.  And of course all the Golden Tees, which I've had a ton of fun with.

My plan is to run a full .69 (or somewhere around there) install, and use .100 JUST for the newer games.  So far that list is just Golden Tee, lol... give me some other good ones :)

I have the same question...I am still using .66.  I am interested in the Raiden Fighters games that have been added recently.  I don't think the music works though :(.

Namco Classics vol 1 & 2 recently got a major update and fixed most of the sound issues.  That's definitely worth it.

thanks for the replies everyone.

I may give your link a try Tiger, although I don't have emuloader running, plus I kind of wanted to avoid just looking through a list of the new games.  I started looking at maws, and quickly realized most of the games were clones, new versions, stuff I wasn't interested in (quiz, mahjong, whatever), or they simply didn't work.

I'm going to have a .100 install for Golden Tee alone... I just figured I'd get other people's opinions on what else is worth putting in so that I didn't have to look at and test hundreds of games to find a dozen or so that are actually worth playing :)

Ah, but that's part of the beauty of my page . . .  Unfortunately it helps if you're familiar with EmuLoader, but you don't have to use it afterwards . . .  (You will want the latest catver.ini file in the EmuLoader\ini files folder.

Short rundown - Set up EL to list your 0.69 games.  Parental Lock ALL OF THEM.  Point EL to 0.100 and create a game list.  You now have only games added between 0.69 and 0.100.  Go to Parental Lock editor and it will automatically filter for nudity/adult/mature, based on catver.ini.  Just add mahjong and quiz and anything else to the list, do a search and add the games.

Exit and turn PL on and you now have only added non-pron/mahjong/quiz games.  Now you can use the filters in the toolbar to hide clones etc.  (You can hide non-working, but this is based on MAME data, and I've found some of the games that don't work at all aren't coded as non-working, and some of the broken ones work pretty well.).  But it gives you ideas. . .

Mrrrrrrrowwwwww!!!!

Maybe you should call him Tiger-Heli.

When you call him "Tiger" it sounds like an affectionate pet name.  lol

Which of course is fine if you are in fact dating.  Not that there's anything wrong with that.

Nevermind me, it's late and I'm getting loony.

This is where MAME32 really shines. Install that. Then look at the folder categories called "version". It will show you all games added for each and every MAME update.

Can't you just use the deluxe search in  MAWS (http://www.mameworld.net/maws/left_srchdx.php)

And select 'Cumulative changes since .069'

yup... thats what I did to start off... but there are 2400+ games.  I guess I'll eventually have to do it and see what gets my attention, but I more or less wanted to know what games people ACTUALLY play with any regularity since .69

I just shudder to think of looking through 2400 games when there are probably 20 games worth playing.  I guess I'll have to bite the bullet though.  Mame32 might be a good way to do it, like Ray suggested.

My method pretty quickly takes it down to about 380 games (still a lot to go through, but . . .)

yeah, I'm definitely gonna give it a shot once I get back to school.  Who needs to study for those 3 tests this week anyway ;)

380 is a lot nicer than 2000
