Title: Bezel for 21" NEC?
Post by: MovingTarget on September 30, 2005, 09:31:08 pm
I've got a 21" NEC monitor that I've replaced with a 19" LCD screen.  I tried to sell it with no luck so I decided to use it in a MAME cabinet...now that I've bought a Happ trackball and an IPAC2 and bought the wood for the cabinet I'm sort of wondering what I've gotten myself into.

Anyway, my monitor is whiteish and I'm going to style my cab after the Neon MAME, he said he put smoked glass infront of the monitor (not sure where to pick some of that up and wouldn't mind some insight on that as well), I'm not sure how good the screen would look behind smoked glass but either way I don't want to see the white of the monitor case.  Where can I get a bezel for this or get information on ideas to cover up the case?

Any pointers would be appreciated as I'm an idea whore at this point.

You can make a bezel out of plexiglass or Lexicon. Cut a piece to fit into your cabinet and paint the border of the glass black (or some other dark color you prefer) so that only the screen is viewable and mount it in front of your monitor, painted side in of course......presto! instant bezel!

Thanks!  I guess I was thinking it would be more difficult than that.

Any good glass suppllier should be able to get you smoked glass (they call it Tinted here in the UK) they will normally offer you a choice between Grey or Bronze. for screen use go for the grey every time, the bronze will affect the colours of your screen (giving a yellow tint to everything)

I would recommend getting Tempered glass (its stronger & safer if it does break) although expect to pay more for this.
