I have probably wasted much of my time and days seperating my rom collection into only USA Roms only...I was wondering if anyone has made dat files or any other sort of file that can be useful to me...Here is what I am looking for in highest priority first..I want all USA Roms (or best version of the rom) and if there isn't a copy of that then keep the E version of this file and if there is no USA rom or E rom then keep the Japan version of this rom and so on...I know everyone has probably sorted there roms to this degree or similar before and someone has probably come up with an easier solution to do this but I just can't seem to fine one...If there isn't any programs that can do this then does anyone have copies of there havelist.txt file that they might have made in GoodTools or similar program after they sorted there roms this way so I can look at them and pick through my own collection...
For anyone that is going to say use goodtools or clrmame pro or similar program I have already did this but when it puts the roms into separate folders still USA has a ton of extra files to be sorted by hand...
If someone can answer this question it would be greatly appreciated...

Isn't it easier to keep the roms and just filter/group the games in the frontend.

My ListGen utility does this. It will take several versions of a game and "prioritize" them, and pick only one unique game.

I thought Listgen only worked with MAME. I get the impression he is referring to Console Roms.

There was a person who replied that he made a program that would do just that. http://forum.arcadecontrols.com/index.php?topic=41174.0

The GoodTools should allow you to do that easily for supported emulators

This is exactly the reason why I wrote this software, as linked in the thread above: http://pages.sbcglobal.net/kobe/ROMSorter.zip
There is currently no documentation, as I think there has been a grand total of one other person that has used this so far (to my knowledge). I can throw a little document together if people really want to use this, as some of the features might be confusing at first.
I remember there being another utility out there to perform this task (was it GoodTools-related?), but it was not customizable. Everything was hard-coded as to how the ROMs were chosen, so I ended up writing my own version. If someone does want to use this I'll be happy to answer any questions about how to run it. Some of the basics were explained in the thread linked a few posts back.

This is a great idea - I hope that it isn't too intense though - I suck at computers.
