Title: saint's new game room - carpet choices
Post by: saint on September 29, 2005, 03:43:22 pm
We're finishing our basement finally, and I get one room as a game room. It's 12.5' by 14.5' and I figure I can get my air hockey table, 7 cabinets, and 2 pins in there.

Right now I'm trying to pick the carpet. I'm going for the dark (black!) game room look, with black-lights and black-light reactive carpet. I already have the Space-Invader stickers for the walls.

Anyway, I'm looking for suggestions on the carpet. I've picked up 2 vendors who will send me small samples to look at. There's a nominal cost involved to either them or me, so I don't want to go overboard. I'm going to ask for somewhere between 2 to 5 samples in total to choose between.

So - of the two web sites listed here, what do people think would make good choices?  I have a few favorites but I'll wait to see if anyone else has an opinion before I post mine. Note that some state a minimum of 1000 square yards and I'm looking for shy of 200 square feet, so those are not possible.

Thanks!

From the first site I like VanGogh & Legs, though Mrs. Stingray certainly would veto that one. :) I'd probably go with VanGogh.

We all want to see what the Saint Cave looks like when it's finished!

It's all about the "LEGS".  All caps none-the-less!

I like Fire And Ice or the TRON carpet. I am sure with the black lights it would really stand out. The Legs is nice but I think you might have to get a pole in there and demand women who step in there put on some clear heels.

Tron is very cool.
Movie time would work if you're putting a theater in the same area.
Golf time would keep the resale up, but it's not the best color scheme.

Don't black lights get hard on the eyes after a while? Is this the sort of thing you'd only turn on when you have guests/party and want the full effect?

Great suggestions and links so far, thanks everyone!

Yeah, I'm worried about too much black light getting hard on the eyes. There's going to be two circuits of lights in the ceiling - standard canned lighting on a dimmer, and then flourescent black lighting that's simply on or off.

Saint, sorry I can't find the link. There was one member of the board who wanted a pod racer arcade in his game room. He had the same flooring, I believe he is also in MI. Anyone care to help? He had a convereted garage I believe.

Contempo Plus Black
i like this carpet from your second link. to me it has a Q-bert/Marble Madness kinda theme going on, plus the pattern looks to "break-up" better.
