Title: Help Me Name My Cab!
Post by: Ldsfunaz on September 29, 2005, 12:20:48 am: ok, im about 75% done with my cab and Its about time for me to Name her.
Heres some facts

4 player Nintendo Themed

gonna have Mame, Nes, SuperNes, Sega.....

gonna have a gauntlet style CPO w/ mario as player 1, Luigi as player 2, Link as player 3 , and ...i dunno maybe DK, ~~maybe sonic~~(EDIT: ok not sonic...jees

For the 4th player you should stick with a Nintendo character, to be consistent with the other 3. How about Yoshi?

If you're going to put Sonic or Tails on there name it "gaychoice-10"

I'm not sure I'm gonna go with "gaychoice-10", being as that may be very disrespectful to any homosexuals who may play it.....

Post by: stratjakt on September 29, 2005, 02:16:33 am: Avoid the whole dorky names like "nintendcade" or "mametendo" or "emutendo" etc. Putting "super" in front of any of those names doesn't make them any cooler, nor would putting "64" after any of them. Any name that starts with "X" or "i" is played out and way tacky.

Most mame cab names are cheesier than a Kenny G album collection.

Do the nintendo logo in the marquee.

Just my two cents.

And most homosexuals aren't all that offended by the word "gay" and can take a joke. It's just uptight PC types who are offended by just about everything.

As for the name of the cabinet thats a hard one, to be honest im like Bubblehead, all those names suggested dont appeal to me (sorry)

How about Nintendo AS (Arcade System) to mimick the Nintendo DS (I dont even know what the DS stands for come to think of it), im not even that keen on that one but atl east it gives you an alternative approach.

If I ever build a mame cab, I'd just call it "1337 0-s3c r0mz0rz!!1!!", but you cant use that name because I'm trademarking it before someone else does.

You should just take a Nintendo name whether it be a Character or a favorite game and theme it after that.

i think I am going to make it black, because doesn't the marque have to be dark to light up good, if it is white wont that not work, i dunno, never done anything like this before..

i was also thinking, black cab, with red T-molding.

i wasn't really into metroid, and I'm trying to keep a more nintendo-ish feel.

If you MUST go with something with "Super" and "cade", how about "Super Famicade"?

And FWIW, I'd go with Mario, Luigi, Toad and Princess Toadstool for the CP - like SMB2.

I like the samus idea... but instead of changing the color scheme so much, go with the Red and Yellow, since both colors are in one of the other controls.... then you still only have 4 colors, red, green, blue, and yellow each used on 2 players.

Thinking up a name was driving me nuts. I figure if a better name ever does come to me, it wouldn't kill me to have a new marquee printed up. Better to have the name John Smith, than to be stuck a John Doe. :)

But you hit it on the head. You are the one looking at your cabinet all day long every day. Don't listen to what other people tell you. Go with what you want and don't bother asking the opinion of others in situations governed by taste, which is what this is.

They're gay. How can it be disrespectful to a bunch of people who are happy? And it'd only be disrespectful if they understand that "gaychoice-10" would be making fun of playchoice, in which case they'll be making fun of you for any of the "cade" names or trying to shoehorn something else into "Super Nintendo" or "Nintendo". dfmaverick is the champion cabinet namer, IMO. Give one of his suggestions a go. Mock 'em up and see how it looks. It may grow on you when you see it all shiny and new-like.

I think it's funny....asking all of us, and a cursory look would show us to not follow our own advice or know our arsehole from any regular hole in the ground ;D
