Title: Cable TV Powerup with Surge??
Post by: nullobject on January 13, 2003, 08:01:54 pm
Hey folks,

Sorry if this seems to be a newb question however Im putting together my first cabinet and had a question . . .
I understand I can power on my WHOLE CAB at once using the power of a surge strip, (comp, speaks, etc).  My setup however uses a 27" television that is cable ready so . . .  (comp set to power on after failure) when I turn on my surge everything comes on-line BUT my tv, due to the fact that even after a power surge or brownout - you still have to manually turn the television back on.  Well, in two days I will be covering the tv controls and infra-red port with a 27" bezel.  Can someone give me insight on how to get the Cable Ready tele to power on along with the surge??  One flick o a switch?  Sorry if Im repeating earlier questions folks, however, I looked through the boards and cant seem to find anything recent that relates to my question  : (

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thx MAD

Most of us just use the TV remote (kinda stinks, but you already know that). You might need to make a hole for the IR signal to get to the TV. The IR will travel through glass so don't worry. You could also move the IR receiver from the tv to the cabinet exterior (solder in extension wires) but I haven't done this before.

It shouldn't be too difficult to rig some type of relay thing that would start up the TV. I'm thinking of something that would need to be wired to the on/off switch on the set. I might try to make one someday. It might need a slight delay built in for the TV to power up (dunno for sure). Has anyone done this yet?
