Title: Review my parts before placing order please.
Post by: dheck on September 27, 2005, 09:26:23 pm
Hello to all,

I have been a lurker for a few weeks.  I am going to build a 4 player mame cabinet.  I am about to place an order for some parts and would like some feedback from all you inteligent people who have done this before.

My CP will be 4 player.  (4) 8 way joysticks with 6 buttons each.  It will also have a single 4 way joystick with 2 buttons and a 3" trackball.

I plan to order (unless otherwise told it's a bad choice)

Happ 8 way ultimate joysticks
Happ 4 way ultimate joystick
Happ competition buttons
Happ 3" trackball with mounting kit
4 player I-PAC
Opti-Pac

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  Tell me what you like or don't like about the parts I have chosen.

Thanks a ton.  ;D

Just my two cents...
I would probably go with supers or comps for the joysticks over the ultimates (at least the 8 ways).  The Happs competition have a very light touch which some people prefer, while others generally like the supers over the ultimates for medium pull joysticks.

If you don't plan on installing a spinner you might want to consider a PS2 trackball. You can then do away with the Optipac...

I wanted to buy a spinner but I could not find a company that sells them anymore.  Any suggestions?

when you place your order, go through Ponyboy, here on the forums.  He rocks, and his prices for Happ products blow Happ away.

Check the Buy/Sell/Trade forum for more info.

SlikStik sells spinners.

And instead of the Optipac, check the Mini-pac.  It can handle a trackball and spinner.

There aren't any games that use more than 4 buttons for player 3 & 4, so save some space and time...

Very good to know.  I will just add 4 buttons for player 3 and 4.

Unless something has changed, Slikstik's spinners are USB, so you won't need an optipac for that either.

So I can use a Happ PS/2 track ball and a SS USB spinner and completely eliminate the OPTI-PAC?

Correct.

What everyone else said, but Competition buttons are dished out and very short throw (think Japanese fighter cab).  Most classic games use the Happ horizontal microswitch button.

Thank you.  I play a lot of games like TMNT, X-men ect.  I also play the fighters like X-men vs SF.  I also enjoy the figher pilot games such as Aero fighter.  So with that being said.  what are the best all around buttons and joysticks for these games?
Those are the games I usually play, but in the arcade they probably had Happ Horizontal Microswitch buttons, if that helps!!!

Ok so I will switch to the Happ super Joysticks and the horozontal microswitch buttons.  Any other suggestions?
