A week ago I placed a bid ($5) on 10 XBOX DVD bezels. I recall the next day that the high bid was at $5.50 and I decided not to bid higher because I figgure "I only need 1... I'm sure I can get the one I need cheper than that."
So I went ahead and posted on XBOX-scene's forums to see if I could get one cheaply and I ended up getting two for $8.
Just today, a couple minutes ago as a matter of fact, I checked my email and I'm the winning bidder... :-\ So now I'm the owner of 12 xbox dvd bezels, have spent $23 ($10 s&h on the 10 from ebay) and I'm left here here wondering if I'm going crazy and I imagined the $5.50 bid or something fishy is going on... :-\

Check the bid history. I don't know if it would show bid retractions and bid cancellations, but chances are that's what happened.

If someone retracted a bid BEFORE the auction ended, you would have won the auction.
IIRC, if the auction ENDED while the other bidder was the high bidder, he won it.
At that point, the seller can only "offer" you the item at the bid you had in, using the "second chance" system.
I'm not positive on that, and don't have time to look it up though.
That is another reason that I always snipe.
I don't want any surprise wins, after I give up on one item and bid on something else.

No problem. Buy eleven more X-Boxes.

Or retract the winning bid and use the cash to bid on the Super Rare Nintendo cartridge.
