Right, but that risk would apply to old lions as much or more than young lions.

I don't know.... Why do the older, less able lions go after the risker prey who have weapons? If we are more dangerous one would think that the older a lion got, the less bold she would become and the more she would avoid "risky" prey in favor of less risky prey.

there was a far side comic that had 3 elephants and 1 baby elephant on one side of the fence and like 5000 humans on the other side--and the caption was--"woops looks like the elephants are overbreeding, better cull some off" (or something like that) I think that most accuratley describes the human race.
