Title: Chicago Meetup?
Post by: ArcaMan on September 21, 2005, 02:04:02 pm

Seems like there are quite a few people here from Chicagoland ... how about a get together sometime this month or next.

I would love to meet some fellow home arcade enthusiasts and share stories, tips and if nothing else a few beers while playing some great games :)

Who's interested?

I am in Bartlett

It's almost been a year, because I couldn't make the last one.

Cool, what works best for everyone?

Anyone available next Friday or Saturday?  - I would invite you over to my place but I don't exactly have much cool arcade related stuff yet as I just moved into a new house from years in an apartment (now my collections can begin!).

Someone suggested GameWorks or D&B.

At The Streets of Woodfield

I'm totally down for this.  I'm in Carol Stream, so I'm right next to you ArcaMan.  Also, I work in Schaumburg, so gameworks is just fine for me.

I'd be able to meet next weekend if that's the consensus, but I'm available otherwise.  The only request I'd make is that we don't do this the weekend of the Chicago marathon (Oct 9th).  Not 'cause I'm running it; my wife is.

Next weekend is now this weekend and there hasn't been many responses.

How about the 21 or the 22?

I'd also like a 28th or the 29th, but then it'd be an optional costume meet up.

Sorry I got sick and was befallen by computer problems -- bought a new pc and was told by MS that it wasn't a genuine advantage approved key or something like that.

Anyhow, who can make it to GameWorks Friday? say 7 p.m.

Also, any of you local guys have a pickup truck? I need to pick up a Project Wolf cab (restoration project) in Des Plaines this weekend. - I am told that this guy has other cabs for sale too.

Friday is good for me.

But I wont get there until after 8.

I can use my Dad's work truck, but his work is in sewer and water, so I'd recomend you make it your plan B, or even J.

Wanna make it Saturday, sometime around midday then?

That would actually be better for me --- never plan something without asking the wife if she has friday night plans :)

How does Saturday, Dec. 10 at noon sound to you guys?

We can either meet at the GameWorks or some place else ... anyone have a cool gameroom?

Also, lets try coordinating via email since this board is sort of hidden :)

You're right about the hidden part.  I stopped checking this one, If I didn't get a PM, I wouldn't have.  December is a bad month for me I've got a Christmas party/family gathering every weekend.  Is January okay?

Sure, I would like to have a monthly meeting and maybe spin it into something where we might have topics or a show and tell / speaker etc.

There are tons of people in Chicago that are into arcade games that I am sure we can get a good group but it will take time and effort :)

BTW I created this yahoo group to help bring people together:

Chicago Home Arcade and Retro Game Enthusiasts (CHARGE!)

Who all is going to be able to make it?

Lets meet at the bar area, I'll try and make a sign or something :)

Welp, I don't know if anyone showed up early and then left but I got there about 15 min late because my car stalled :(

Anyhow, was sort of a bust, but on the positive note, it looks like GameWorks has tried to create a more adult arcade experience upstairs, so that is sort of nice.  Had a few old skool games in home brew boxes up stairs with a bunch of just "older games"

Anyhow, I don't know if anyone can meet up Thursday evenings, but they have a $10 play card that lets you play from 9-close, so that seemed pretty cool.

Anyhow, if anyone did show up, I appoligize that I was late.

Any suggestions for places to meet up next month?

Hopefully once the holidays are over and life gets back to normal it will be better for people :)

I am tenativly suggesting middle of January at Game Works again (nice easy to find location) unless anyone wants to try Dave and Busters either down town or out in the suburbs. - or even better a game room where we don't have to pay to play games :)

Also, I invite you all to visit the yahoo group I set up:

Cheers,

James
