Title: Where to mount remote monitor controls?
Post by: RayB on September 21, 2005, 12:00:38 pm
My monitor has one of those "remote" adjustments. Not remote in the wireless "tv remote control" sense, but in the arcade monitor sense that the knobs are on a seperate little board that can be mounted somewhere convenient and accessible from the front.

To anyone who has this kind of set-up, I'd like to know where you mounted it? As I see it, I have two options:

1. Mounted somewhere accessible when the control panel is opened.

 or

2. Mounted somewhere accessible through the coin door.

Opinions? I've made a Poll. Please vote.

I put any controls that isn't needed often within easy reach through the door.  I just think that opening the door is often times easier than removing/opening some of the CPs.

Reguardless where, I would 'hide' it from plain view.

My cab came with a monitor with a "remote control" installed in the coin door, and I think that's the most logical place, at least for this cab, since I have to open the CP hinges through the coin door to get acces to the CP room, so this would require a lot more work to get to it...

Mine is also behind the coin door (along with USB2 hub, volume & system switch):

Not yet done but on course ...

My problem is that the TV I use on my cab doesn't detect and automatically switch to the S-video input when powered on. Since it was the only thing I need from the remote I'll use a button on the CP to activate the input. I'm hacking a remote control and taking it appart so that I can place him wherever I want and then wire the button I need and the IR emitter placing them near the TV remote sensor (IR emitter) and near the button (on the CP).

It doesn't seem to be your exact problem, but if you need only two or tree buttons from the remote, you might want to consider this solution.

I have mine on top of the cabinet right above the marquee.  Works well and is accessible without needing keys etc.

My dedicated Neo Geo has the remote mounted under the control panel. The biggest advantage of this is that while adjusting the controls your viewing the screen at the same angle as when playing. If the board is inside the coin door its more difficult to look at the monitor while adjusting it. The disadvantage is that it's harder to get to the controls.

Was going to say this exactly ... I prefer under the CP.

Cheers.
