I am having some issues trying to play mortal kombat, street fighter, and any other larger-sized ROM. I have a pIII 533 and 192 megs of RAM and an All-In-Wonder 128 video card. It runs a little better when I set frame skip to 5 or 6 /12, but it still drags, delays, and I get sound echos. Is this normal? Is there a particular setting I need to check/uncheck? Do I need more RAM? Video Card? CPU? Someone please help a newbie out....Thanks!

couple of days ago, every single games used to play at full speed 60fps on a minimum 1.2ghz pc but now there are new games that needs 4ghz pc(very funny).
If you get 1.2ghz then you should be able to play everything(MK and street fighters).THAT is the requirement i heard in many places.
Also, stick a 512mb ram in there and you are good to go. ;)

I would suggest more ram for the larger games when you update.

800 mhz athalon with 256 megs of ram is the minimum I've seen umk3 run on.

I have an 800Mhz PIII with 384MB of RAM... All of the SF games run flawlessly. MK on the other hand runs pretty good, but not as smooth as I would like.. I just upgraded to a AMD 2100+ for my cab.

pIII's in the case of emulation, are not as fast as the athlon. That's probably the difference.

I've been pricing some computers on E-Bay (barebones) and it appears as if I can get an AMD Duron 1400 for around $150 with shipping. This will give me 1+ Ghz and I will acquire 512 mb RAM. Does anyone have an opinion of the Duron processor? I believe this is the last model before the XP series. Just trying to stay under a budget... so the wife won't axe me in my sleep and take my wallet....

Don't get parts like that from eBay, they're almost always overpriced.
You can get an Athlon XP 2100 for as cheap as $74 with $5.33 shipping. Check www.pricewatch.com for cheap deals on parts. Always double check the shipping charges though, sometimes the dealers on there try to gouge people.

I have 2 Duron Machines, a 950 and a 1000 and have been very happy with the experience. I also have an Athalon 1.2. THe Duron 1000 was in my Upright Cab and performed great, but I decided to swap out the 1.2 for the 1000 for other reasons(basically the CPU difference didn't matter for my non-gaming pc, so I swapped). The 1.2 with 512 ram allows me to play everything (mame .60) without a hitch.
All in all I like the Durons. Got mine at www.pricepc.com (http://www.pricepc.com) in the barebone section. These guys will sell a barebone, but they still TEST everything before the ship it out....bought all my machines from them and have had about 4 or so friends go there too with same satisfied purchases...
