Title: newbie - arcade monitor question
Post by: fazz on September 18, 2005, 12:00:59 pm
I have purchased an old jamma cab with the intention of mameing it but have bought a couple of jamma boards to test it and use it while i save for parts.  I have it working and had to open the back up to mess with the horizontal frequency knob to get a stable picture.  I have read all the stuff on dangerous areas ie anode etc.  The back of my tube does not seem to have the rubber cap but has an area before the small square board which has lots of copper wire in spools a bit like on a motor.  When the cab is on the area glows bright orange.  Is my monitor missing a rubber cap, is this dangerous ie electrocution or damage to eyes from light.

Im no electrician and Im a bit woried about this

Not at all - the orange light is perfectly normal. If it wasnt on, either you werent looking hard enough or your monitor wasnt working =). The yoke err.. probably best left to a professional to answer that, but if its working you neednt worry about it anyway. I believe it has something to do with directing the electron guns... or something like that =). By the way, if you're seven year old son was using the machine - surely you would want the monitor completely covered anyway?

yes once i have mame installed and i let him use it it will all be closed up etc  I was more worried that the orange glow could mean a potential fault that could have dangers elsewhere etc.  Its me with my head in the back of the cab trying to find the vertical / horizontal controls under 20 years of dust.  He wont be let near it until its all sorted.

Many thanks for your help - this site is proving to be a god send already

next job is to get the sound to work all the time instead of just sometimes- but i guess thats for another forum

The orange light is actually a heater.  It glows when it gets hot.
