Looks like a potentionometer == pot to me... it's a variable resister - not a switch at all.
Perhaps I'm looking at the wrong item in the photo???
-
no i think your right its thw round thing with 3 wires coming of it...
I m thinking I cant hook this up to my i-pac ? but could be wrong.. thanks
-
no problem - look around these examples for people hacking analog type controls - such as steering wheels - you may be able to do something with the control after all.
-
will an opti-pac work ? I have left and right, throtle and brake that I would be wirring to this, i cant use the ipac couse it only open or closed switch as with this I would be needing some thing that could do degrees of left or right or lets say half throtle..

I guess an optipac could work - I've only wired miine for a trackball, but from what I recall there are indeed 4 available axis (2 "mice"). It's not the cheapest solution, but I'm happy with how mine works.
Have you considered hacking a mouse or two? Just a thought... Also keep in mind that the opti pac (from what I understand) relies on an optical sensor output - what you have are just variable resistors. If this is truly the case then no, they wouldn't work without some modifications...

i think i got it its callec a-pac

this might be the ticket

rock and roll - didn't know about that one!!!

Right, an Opti-Pac doesn't do analog controls (potentiometers). You'll need that A-Pac or a different encoder that supports analog.
-
thats the thing there not to many encoders that support anolog, I have spent most of the night looking...lol.. and the A-pac is out of stock, Just emailed them to find out when they will be expecting more.
if anyone knows of encoders Im looking for please post the links, thanks

The most obvious solution that comes to my mind is to hack it via the joystick port but you will probably have to change over the pots to make this work.

You could get an AKI:
