Title: Anyone able to play Tekken 3?
Post by: KungFuJoe on September 15, 2005, 02:13:37 pm
I'm using a pretty new HP workstation for my mame machine.  It's a P4 3.4GHz with 512MB of ram.  The video card I'm using is a PCI Nvidia MX4000.  Been trying to play Tekken 3 and it still plays pretty slow.  Using latest version of MAME for Windows.

Anyone able to play this game at full speed successfully, and if so, what software/hardware config are you using?

Zinc should get it running full speed for you. It's not true emulation like Mame; it passes all the heavy 3D graphics routines over to DirectX and your graphics card. So what you get is a game that displays slightly differently to the arcade original (very slightly), but plays at full speed.

But then do I need a better video card?  Mine is only directx 8 compatible and is PCI based.

Zinc is a best choice to play Tekken3 arcade version.
3.4GHZ proccesor is much powerfull(not celeron)AMD/INTEL.
AGP/3D card should be atleast 128MB.Most people are not happy with 512 RAM so it should be 1GHZ. :)

Mame does not  provide a good emulation for those Playstation games because mame never takes advantage of a 3D card.

Any way if you just want to play Tekken3 with a good speed.
You can use Epsxe emulator. It only needs a 800 Mhz Pentium3 with 256MB ram.

btw Connectix Virtual game station (VGS) only need a 500 MHZ with
256 Mb Ram. :)

Oh...yeah...

There are some good but :-* Hack versions of mame which used PSX plugin.I don't reccomend that versions because they are Illegel/unofficial.

Try EK-MAME32 . ;)

No, that's fine.  ZiNc offloads some hardware rasterising to the video card, but doesn't require nearly as much power as yuo'd think.  You don't need a $500 uber-card for ZiNc.  With your 3.4GHz P4 that setup should be plenty.

As mentioned, the sound emulation in Tekken3 under both the MAME driver and ZiNc (I believe it's the same author for both) is still troublesome.  If you find performance lacking, turn off audio and see how you go.

As mentioned, if it's JUST tekken3 that you're after, buying the board is probably a much easier alternative.  Check the forsale forums here, and ebay.

Just searching eBay-AU now, I see Tekken3 for PSX/PS2 going for as little as AU$5 (US$3).  Bargain.

If by any chance you have a ps2, Tekken 5 comes with the arcade versions of Tekken 1-3.  They are good ports.
