Title: ArcadeOS Users Please Comment
Post by: chris2922 on September 15, 2005, 01:47:02 pm
Im testing ArcadeOS on a WindowsXP machine before i build a DOS7.1 system to run in a publicly used cocktail cab.

Couple'a questions though:

From the menu screen, when i press start1 to select a game, the screen corrupts severly for about 10 seconds before the game starts.
Quiting the rom crashes my DOS session, leaving me only able to end task from task manager.
Some roms (tmnt2.zip for one) go straight into test mode with the dip-switch set to service-on.  This doesn't happen when running the game from the dos prompt without ArcadeOS.

It seems like a good front end, but are these problems the same for everyone, or will some configuring solve the problem?
It might have something to do with running a dos session in XP instead of true dos.  Im using win command line mame too.

The help text file is corrupt on all the versions ive downloaded too - which is a real pain.

No non arcadeOS familiar member replys please.

ArcadeOs is a pure Dos Base mame front-end.
Using ArcadeOS in Windows environment is a foolish experiment.

The dEF version of ArcadeOS is just vanilla AOS with some eye-candy hacks built in.

But he's right...AOS is a DOS *only* program.  It's not built for Windows, and will have errors if you try to run it in Windows.

Thanks for your help.  Ill finish building a DOS environment and try it there.
I wasn't willing to spend the time building a DOS machine to find out i didn't like front end, so i dont see it was a foolish experiment.  A fool would have just decided it didn't work and tried something else.  I posted becasue I suspected Windows was giving me the problems.
