Title: Rock Star INXS - Opinions..Especially you Aussies
Post by: RaggedEdge on September 14, 2005, 08:29:16 am
OK, I admit it, I got hooked on this show and I am curious what the Aussies here think about what INXS is doing to get a new singer.  Do you think they will change there music style?

i had no idea they had actually gone ahead with the show. all i can say to the inxs boys is: let it go. move on. form new bands. what would have become of dave grohl if he and krist had dogmatically stuck to nirvana?

Yep, they are still around.  I don't know what they have done since the singer hung himself in a hotel room.  But now they are using Mr. Reality TV himself Marc Burnett to help them find a new singer.  It has been on all summer here in the U.S. and they are down to 4 contestants.  Apparently the winner will immediately go into the studio to record their next album.  The contestants are all young, so I think it will be funny to see these 40+ guys with gray hair, and the new youngster singer.  They most certainly will have to start over as far as their genre goes.  Unless there will be a 80s revival.......doubt that.  They had several hits (at least I thought they were) "I need you tonight" "New Sensation" What you need" "Never tear us apart"  I liked them back then, but I can't see them pulling it off now.

I couldn't really care less.  I just hope that show doesn't make it onto my tv.

They had several hits, but as I recall, they were all on the same album. Did they do more than just that one?

I have a cloudy recollection of the singer hanging himself. How long ago was that? Seems like it has been quite a while.

Yes, they had several albums, but I don't remember them.  I first heard their songs in 1982 "Original Sin"  Micheal Hutchence killed himself in 1997.

Okay, I actually had to go look up INXS so I could find out for myself. Yep, they sure enough did make a whole crapload of albums. I only had one of them, Kick. Every song that they did that I know is on that one, which would explain why I thought they ony did the one. Now I'm gonna have to dig out the old cardboard box of cassettes and see if it's in there. :)

I am Aussie and I dig INXS, they were THE band in my golden years. I have a couple of albums and still listen to "The Swing" at least monthly.

I am a firm believer that more often than not the head singer gives the band its unique sound and this is lost when the singer is changed.

Sure there are exceptions when the singer is changed such as AC/DC, Van Halen or Iron Maiden but I find these cases are rare, usually changing the singer gives the band a completely different sound.

In short, big thumbs down to INXS returning although Jon Stevens from Noiseworks could have filled the gap quite well.

I guess the big question is "Does INXS want to be the band they were prior to M.H.'s death or do they want to be something different?"

Well that's a fair point, they have some great musicians and it would be a shame for them not to continue sharing their gift, but if they are going to change their sound and lead singer then a name change should also be on the agenda.

Keeping the name INXS would almost seem like cashing in on their past efforts rather than making their own unique name in the world of music for this decade.

I sort of gathered that this was the general idea here.

Who wouldn't love to proclaim "I'm the new lead singer of INXS, the original guy masturbated himself to death!"

The band stinks, the show stinks worse.  :P

I had forgotten that particular detail of the singer's death.

I didn't know that particular detail about his death.  I had read somewhere that he hung himself, because he was distraught over not having custody of this child.  Who knows...

He was roughing up the suspect while choking himself on a door. Achieving orgasm while denying the brain of oxygen is apparently very intense but sometimes things go wrong.

Beats the hell out of me why the guy would prefer this type of stimulation when he had a sexy piece of woman like Kylie Minogue at his fingertips.

Definitely not the most dignified way to be found.

I remember hearing that he was in an accident and lost his senses of taste, smell, and some of his sight. He was depressed prior but I doubt the accident helped.

yes, ACDC struck while the iron was hot. back in black rocks! if they had waited 6 years for another singer it would have sucked. i cant agree on van halen though. david lee roth was the man! it must be a thing with bands with brothers in them (except in acdcs case. damn, so much for that theory).
