Title: marquees larger than 26"
Post by: Breaker on September 12, 2005, 12:20:17 am
Hi all,

While planning my CAB I ordered a 26" X 8" marquee but my final design will need a 27" x 8" version. I contacted a couple of marquee vendors to ask if marquees wider than 26" resulted in image distortion - the answer was yes, but only a very slightly.

I thought I'd check with the BYAOC community to see what those who have purchased 27" (or wider) marquees thought. Another option I have is to expand the border with extra black - but I don't think this would look good.

Any comment are appreciated.

An inch over 27 isn't going to distort it much at all.
I'd just get it printed.
I doubt you'd even notice it if you weren't looking for it.

The other option would be to enlarge the image proportionally, which will result in a slight cropping of the top and bottom of the image when you mount it.
As long as you're not cutting off anything vital, it should look fine that way too.

Marquee "trimming" was very common in the arcades, when they did conversion cabinets.
They just cut it down to fit the marquee of whatever they were putting it in.
That was usually only a problem on cabinets like Vindicators, which had a small marquee that had the top two corners chopped off of it.

Actually, the monitor glass on my Crazy Climber is a cut down version of the one that they used on the Crazy Climber Deluxe cabs.
That results in the top part of the monkey (that is completely visible on the Deluxe) being cut off to fit flush with the back wall of the cab.

Hi NoOne=NBA=,

I'm planning to order one of OSCAR's galaxy marquees so I was glad to hear the added inch wouldn't be significant - in fact it might add an interesting effect to the star backgorund on this particular marquee.

Thanks!
