Title: Act Labs GS gun system in Linux
Post by: scottie4442 on September 10, 2005, 08:23:18 am
I was wondering if anyone know if the old Act Labs GS gun system works in Linux, I know it uses the gameport to interface?  I have tried everywhere on the net and cannot find any response to this question anywhere.  I know that the drivers that come from Act Labs are for WIn 98 only, but AdvanceMAME says that is can run the USB PC and/or TV guns, can it also run the gameport ones.  The reason I ask is, and yes I know they have the USB guns and that they work in Linux, but unfortunately I am short on cash at the moment (this arcade thing can take a lot of cash) and I picked up a GS system cheap and wanted to see if I could use it. Any help would be appreciated.

P.S. before someone tries to start a flame war about Linux vs. Windows vx. DOS, I like LInux it is what I use, I have no problem with the other OS's but my cab is running on Linux and I am not going to switch.

The GS talks a proprietary protocol over the gameport, so none of the built in drivers will support it.  I got one cheap and I'm currently working on a linux driver for it.  I have the protocol revere-engineered and have a test program which will talk to it, so the next step is to get the driver written.

Correction to the previous post: the built in drivers will NOT support it.
