Can anyone recommend a (currently availble new) motherboard with on-board sound that will work under DOS? Or does no such thing exist?
-
well pretty much any motherboard these days has onboard sound. Can't help you with the DOS part tho, sorry.

No such thing exists.

I suspected as much, but it was worth the ask.
What sound cards have you DOS owners got running in your MAME cabs?
-
Onboard AC97 sound works fine from DOS, there's got to be motherboards still for sale with it.
Edit: Here's a bunch of them (http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.asp?Manufactory=&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=739%3A7711&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&PropertyCodeValue=0&description=&MinPrice=&MaxPrice=&SubCategory=22&Submit=Property).

I bought this item on Ebay for my bartop: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=3701&item=5208883097
It works great! I just had to edit the config files a bit to get it working...

So long as your motherboard has an ISA slot. I don't think PC's have had ISA slots in about six years.

Thanks guys.
*lesserChance : drivers on floppy disk; im getting all misty eyed....*

If you have a SB you really shouldn't need to worry about drivers. I believe they can still be had at the following address.

This is also a great site for helping one setup their DOS machine.

Thanks, thats a great link.
I pity da fool that dont use this forum --BINGO! Either that, or I was attempting to say "before" but it was too many letters to type-- trying to build a mame cab...
