Title: Shinobi sucide repair needed

I'm looking for some educated advice on who is the best/most dependable at providing a EPROM swap for a shinobi suicide board. The only info I have found on Google is at leopardcats site. Is he recommended? Any other suggestions. Anybody ever done this repair?

I don't have much money in this game, but it has turned out to be pretty fun! It is showing some signs of sound loss already, so I'm sure the writing is on the wall.

Which board set is your shinobi?


Look at the rom ids and match to this list.

(I.e. look for the cpu and tell us what it is.)

That isn't how it works, it either works or it doesn't work. Either the decryption table for the audio is good, or it isn't, there is no halfway point.

If I were you I would check your voltages.

Well, this is good to know. I of course made an assumption that the intermittent sound loss was due to the suicide issue. Assumptions always work out so well :)

 It loses sound completely after running for a few hours. Unplug and let sit for an hour, sound is back. It also has some "missing" sounds on certain levels. Background music mostly. I ran voltages when I got it, and all was well, but It wont hurt to check again.

Any other thoughts?

Sounds like you have a marginal chip somewhere in the sound area that stops working once it warms up. Perhaps more than one of them. Get some freeze spray and start spraying chips (while it is running), after the sound vanishes. Sound should come back when you spray one of them, and that one is probably your culprit.

It could also be a capacitor issue. If your board only has a few caps on it then just go ahead and replace them.
