Title: Any way to make a X-Arcade wireless?
Post by: j123vt_99 on September 06, 2005, 09:11:59 am
I'm thinking about building a HTPC to connect to my TV for movies and videos... Since I will never be able to build a cabinet , I was thinking about running mamewah on this PC.  I don't want to have a cable running from the PC to my couch for the controller, so figured wireless might be the way to go.. Any suggestions?

Possibly, you can hack a wireless xbox controller, rewire the "hub" to Usb and use the xbox pc drivers..

i dont promise anything tho, as i havent tried those drivers on wireless because im not about to hack up a 50$ controller to test it..

Definitely no easy way.  Your best bet might be to get one or two of those Saitek wireless USB game pads and hack the inputs on the board to the switches on your X-arcade.  Those controllers are expensive though, and unless you're very confident in your soldering skills you might not want to risk it.

i plan on using htpc as my arcade source...  when i want to play, i'm just gonna plug in 1 usb cord or extenstion leading up the the coffee table or something (1 wire across the floor), then from there ipac can hook up allowing me to have 4 controllers.  it will make a very small box with the joysitcks wired with networkign cable so i can just plug in when its time to play.  1 wire wont look so bad on the floor

Because they are made for VERY different things.  keyboards don't care about 1/4 of a second lag time and don't care about multiple key presses more then 2 or 3.  and its very easy to do wireless with lag and few keys... its hard to do it without them.

If you do anything, hack a wireless joystick.   These are made to work well with games... There are some good bluetooth ones available.... but expensive.

Why not hack a wireless keyboard?

YMMV, and maybe I'm just not very good to begin with ;), but I play all kinds of games on my PC with a wireless keyboard with no problems at all (no perceptable lag, etc).

Are you playing 2-P fighting games with your hands AND feet at the same time?
That's where you're going to see it.
Most other games won't require you to press 6+ buttons at once.

Yes.  Get a bluetooth adapter for a keyboard.

Any lag is imperceptible to normal human beings.  If you get a hardcore asshat that complains, tell him to go away.
