Title: Dual Monitor Question
Post by: missioncontrol on September 05, 2005, 10:35:10 am
O.k. I've got a NVIDIA GeForce4 MX 440 video card that can supposibly have two monitors hooked up to it. I was hoping that once I plugged in the second monitor windows would detect it and help in setting it up, but no luck.

I uninstalled the video drivers and the re-installed them hoping than it would detect two monitors and help me set it up, no luck again.

my qusetion is anybody know how to set up the use of two monitors with this card?

I am running windows 2K pro.

thanks........

I have the 440 Go in my laptop (same chipset).

Make sure you have the video out plugged into whatever your have as your 2nd display. Go to Display Properties > Settings > Advanced > nView.

Your 2nd monitor should show up there. Make sure that the "Clone" option is checked. Hit ok and the 2nd display should mirror you desktop.

Are you sure you want to select "clone"?  I'm not using an Nvidia card, but I understand that cloning will put the same image on both monitors and "extend" will allow you to use both monitors as though they were a single larger monitor.

I used horizontal span

I'm still playing with trying to tweak it just right, but I'd like to set it up the same way it's used in my web design class where the mail screen has the task bar and the other screen is just blue until you drag the progam you are running over there.

any suggestions on how to keep the toolbar to just one screen like that?

download Ultramon.  You can add/remove a task bar and do a ton of other stuff as well.

If you're running dual monitors, you NEED Ultramon IMHO.

I've been running dual monitors on my Mac at home for years. It's very easy to get used to it, and very hard to go to a machine with only one monitor after you do get used to it. I really wish I had that setup at work.

One of mine is a 21 inch, the other a 17. If I had room, I'd add a third. You can never have too much screen real estate. :)
