Title: Great PC Monitor mounting idea
Post by: Ryan on January 07, 2003, 01:12:42 am
One of my biggest problems in planning my cabinet has been how I am going to mount my 21" monitor.

Just read from one the recent projects that he took the front off his PC monitor off and everything slide out of back casing.  He then bolted the casing to the cabinet and then slide everthing back together.

Has anyone else tryed this method or similar?  Any thoughts if this will hold strong enough?

If you use enough screws it ought to hold. Its hard to say if you it would survive being moved up a flight of stores and across town on a trailer though.

I just installed a 20" monitor in a rally x cab and did it basically by building a frame around the monitor. I'll post pics when I get a chance. I made it so the monitor pulls out easy and goes back easy because I don't trust transporting it in there. That and it makes it 70lbs lighter to get it up the stairs out of my basement.

I have found an great way, depending on the type of cabinet and what you have in it.

I have built 3 mame machines using old, stripped taito cabinets that have the original monitor mounting plate in them.  Using a 20" or 21" monitor (both will work), I removed the entire back plastic cover.  The monitor then fits perfectly into the monitor mounting plate and the monitor is then held in by gravity by the front plastic cover.

Just like eightbit, this easily slides in and out of the cabinet and can be taken out when I want to move it.

Does everyone leave their PC monitor cases on when mounting usually?

depends if you ever want to use that particular monitor again on a desktop i.e. normally =P

You can find pics of my mounting attempts at http://ubercade.randomdrivel.com (http://ubercade.randomdrivel.com) I did a simliar thing (kinda) to ashardin, although my Taito cab's monitor mounts weren't "wide" enough to catch the frame, so I had to make my own (in the same spot in order to preserve the same angle..) and I accidently mis-measured and then ended up planeing away wood to get it to fit (but that was my mistake - the basic idea is relatively sound)

*shrug*
